Fresh off Blitz Japan's shelf and onto North Amercian soil, here it is... Blitz's newest creation for our beloved RX8.... SUS power air cleaner intake kit!!

Once again i cant thank Thew at Mazdaparts.com enough for bringing us new parts time and time again!! Package arrived as promised, tracking was provided, invoice was emailed, everything was smooth and kept on record.

Definately will purchase from Mazdaparts.com again just like all my previous experiences with all my parts from Thew. :cool:

And now for the product review.....

Installation was very straight forward and simple, i am no mechanic and i found it a piece of cake to do..... the installation took me around 1 1/2 hours with some picture taking etc....

I've got to say... BLITZ is BLITZ!!... Theres definately no doubts about its product's quality.... it is just a work of art!! You can totally see the research they did on this product because it is so refined. All pieces are perfectly shaped and fits perfectly in place, certainly a simple BOLT-ON modification!! The kit comes with everything you'll need for installation and it also came with pre-slitted foam pieces to fit on the intake box to protect any unwanted contact with other parts of the engine bay. Unfortunately it comes with japanese installation instructions but its ok now because i've posted my english version :cool:

You might ask whats so special about this Blitz unit?
The uniqueness comes from the air cleaner filter. There is no foam, no paper, no nothing!! :eek: It is made purely from stainless steel from head to toe! This is a filter you could use for a LIFETIME! no wearing down, just a simple wash with water, no cleaning solution, no need for re-oiling... And this filter is MASSIVE i tell ya its quite the beast.

I do not know how to explain it, but this filter produces a different sound unlike any other intakes with the traditional paper filter or foam. The sound from my videos does not give full justice to its sound!...

This intake is nice and quiet with a cool small hissing air sucking noise upon normal throttle conditions.....and once you open it up it roars like a beast all the way up to 9k rpm :D

Upon installaing this intake i took the car out for a long drive.... and boy is this now a different car!! This intake has really added some serious beef to the powerband of anywhere over 4k rpm... I can now also pass on the highway in 6th without downshifting! :eek: The idle is smoother and it produces a cool hissing noise when idling i LOVE IT! :p

I will wait until i get my 3rd or 4th full tank of gas before i tell you guys about the MPG figures but from my first heavy footed tank i am still getting improvements of MPG compared to PRE-BLITZ figures.

Overall this intake is all i could hope for in an intake and then some! The build quality is simply amazing and you really get what you pay for in this product!

These things are still pretty rare in NA and Thew at Mazdaparts.com has the first and only 5 in NA right now i believe so get them while you can! :p

Looks nice. Would like to see the power difference.

Hey, I'm not bashing or anything, but what exactly makes this intake a "work of art" etc etc? It looks like three quarters of a sheet metal box with a Blitz air cleaner. Or were you referring the the air cleaner element itself when you said this?

About that air cleaner element....anyone know of any impartial filter tests that compare these stainless steel filters to the other types of available filter elements? I can certainly believe they flow well, but do they filter well?

Sorry it was alot to type up... this review and the DIY write-up... lol I meant the air filter when i said " a work of art ".... you would have to see this filter in person to really appreciate it..... its just all.............stainless steel.......its crazy :p


And about the filter.... this is dubbed off the Blitz NA website : ( it is of course BIASED :) )

i was about to say...i thought blitz actually put out an intake kit like that...(not bashing on the kit). Their air filters are very nice though!

I don't think you'll be able to find more than a few HP from an intake on a NA RX-8.

Kit looks nice, tho'. I wonder if it can be adapted to the GReddy?

Heard blitz had a catback exhaust out too, wonder how that looks...

I ran a performance shop for a year and Blitz products are top shelf never had a quality issue. We did find a dust in the intake tracks that got past the filters. But we found that with a few others also. They make some of the best stuff and their customer service was excellent.

i can tell byt he pictures but does the filter have an open inside like the new k&n does to take advantage of the ram air hole?

I've had it for a month now, I just love it when the intake changes tone when it hits 4-5k rpm. Product quality is definitely solid. From the silicon wrap to the welding for the adapter to mount the maf sensor. fuel consumption did improve slightly but nothing to shout about. As to its filtration capabilities, im not too sure but you cant really have excellent filtration + excellent airflow right? It's prob gotta be somewhere in between.

Definitely not for anyone who doesnt like a loud intake. :D

Yes you are right... that change of tone at 4k rpm is pretty neat...

its a tone that is different than any other filters..... its gotta do with the steel mesh i believe..

uhh i want a cold air intake.... ne suggestions on which one is the best, no one specified if this was cold air, im assuming it isnt cuz its the first time i heard of the blitz one, but yea jus wondering, wanna get the best for my car. ;)

Hi,

The Blitz is a short ram unit.

The only CAIs out there in the market for the 8 are the AEM and RB REVI + air duct

if you're going to call that ram air duct of RB's a CAI then you need to give respect to Auto Exe as well, which is a much better company than RB and they were the original company to feature the "air duct" design.

Why wouldn't you call the REVi + duct a CAI? It draws ALL of its intake air from the nose of the car. Isn't that pretty much the definition of CAI? Maybe I'm misinterpreting the tone of what you wrote there...

not to be a jerk or anything, but that certainly is one ugly setup.

I know I know, function before looks... But if i'm only going to be gaining 2-3hp, I might as well go with a kit that looks good right?

Im sorry but thats probably the nicest intake iv seen for our cars, You can tell its quality

the heat sheild is ugly as hell but the intake system itself looks nice
