BHR Ignition kit problem

So i recently installed the bhr ignition kit and have ran into some problems. To start off my gas has been burning really rich and has lead my car to pop like a bitch(dont mind the popping since its beautiful) and before the kit i was getting 100 miles every half tank and now I only reached 70-80miles half tank. Also I have aftermarket intake, midpipe, and exhaust and wondered if i just really need a tune. Thanks for all the help guys.

Did you perform the 20-brake stomp after installing the ignition?

RX8Soldier 06-29-2015 03:55 PM

make sure all the leads are going to the correct plug/ coil/ wire. Make sure you've tightened everything down to spec. .
Try resetting the battery (unplug for 30 min) and allow the fuel trims to reset

No need to perform the 20 brake stomp when installing new ignition system.

Here's a good thread that lays out the differences between NVRAM and KAM https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...memory-169443/

Didn't say it was the right thing to do :wink2:

If anything after properly installing this kit you should be running more lean. What intake, midpipe and exhaust do you have installed? Did you do all these mods at once or was the intake/exhaust on the car previous to the BHR ignition?

The fact you are running rich points to what Soldier mentioned above, you've probably got some wires crossed or a spark plug is not firing properly. Do you also feel a significant power loss?

logalinipoo 06-29-2015 07:20 PM

IT might be in the intake also. If you pulled it apart and don't have it lined up right going back together.

TheWhiteAce 06-29-2015 08:09 PM

I have an hks mushroom intake, rp supercat midpipe with hi flow cat, and borla exhaust system all have been installed prior to bhr kit but i will try restting my battery first

TheWhiteAce 06-29-2015 08:22 PM

Also i tightened the spark plugs all the way but was i supposed too?

Well there is a specific torque in in. lbs. that the spark plugs are suppose to be... I know there is an image around on the site that specifies what the range is.

EDIT: Here's the thread with spark plug torque information -> https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-...change-145045/

So your first inclination is to post on the internet rather than contact BHR for advise? Really?

I have contacted charles from bhr as well and is also giving me advice

Second opinions are only helpful when it's medical.

Like Team said, do all the upgrades together. I did my BHR ignition, AEM intake and Megan exhaust all the same day. It's like a completely different car. I had a CEL after finishing the install, after about 50 miles of driving and turning the car off and then back on the CEL was gone.

TeamRX8 07-02-2015 01:47 AM

When did I say that?

We all remember, you must be getting old. :sadwavey:

TeamRX8 07-02-2015 11:47 AM

I'm not so old that I need to have words spoon-fed to my mouth yet :hahano:

Check the BHR leads are pressed firmly onto the sparkplugs - the clamps are pretty firm so you need to press pretty hard before they snick into place. Does the car idle fine? If so, while it's idling, gently pull each lead at the spark plug end and see if it starts misfiring. If so, the connection to the plug is no good. Did you connect the ground lead supplied with the kit correctly?

Rotocop, don't do all your mods all at once if you're not mechanically savvy - when something goes wrong after the install, you won't know which new part caused the problem.

dmengel 07-04-2015 07:33 AM

Deffinitley check those plug wires at the coilpack side. What a PITA it is to get them in there.

And I would also advise against doing too many related mods at once. If you come up with an issue, you'll be doing a lot of un-installing..

RotaryMachineRx 07-04-2015 10:20 AM

OP already stated that he already had all the mods installed before he did the ignition.....

Any updates, did you get to the bottom of this?
