best intake with most adv.
 

what do you guys think that the best intake and exhaust combo there is out there to order for my rx8

oem intake is about as good as it gets. a drop in green filter will work well too. keep in mind the oem intake takes cold air from the front bumper area. If you get something like a K&N, you're sucking in hot air and that isn't going to help you any.

Exhaust - same boat, they aren't going to help you much, most people base their choice on looks and sound. The borla is the one I picked since it had the deepest sound out of the bunch (my opinion of course), but it also tends to be the ugliest. On the good side, the borla can is completely hidden with the stock bumper.

If you're going for sound, just get an exhaust, the intakes aren't worthwhile.

If you want performance, look into a lightweight flywheel, pullies, ecu piggyback, and if you can wait a few months, FI.

You might want to wait for the Racing Beat air intake coming out. That seems to be the best design for the 8. If you can't wait go for the Rotary Extreme unit. The K&N has given some people some idling issues. I have the Racing Beat exhaust, and I love it. Throatier without being too obnoixious.

I have a closed intake from SR Motorsports, it contains a K&N filter and no worries about it grabbing hot air from the engine bay due to its enclosure. Works just fine, no idle problems.

how much did that intake set you back? and the Racingbeat intake is suppose to be cold air! cant wait :D

I like SR Motorsport products, but something about their "cold-air" intake is just too similar to Stock Box, with a K&N or Green Filter. JasonH. is right, Stock Box is about as good as it gets, for now, so is the stock exhaust. Flywheel, ECU, Pullies, and others are definitely the way to go.

Hey, nojooc, if you want to loan me that HKS of yours, I'd be happy to do a side-by-side comparison of the HKS, Rotary Extreme, and factory units.

Just kidding. I think the HKS looks better than the R.E. and I hope that it performs as well as, or better, than stock. It seems that the built-in velocity stack on the HKS filter would help to maintain airflow characteristics close to the stock unit.

I have a velocity stack (I think, are you talking about that big long metal tube from the filter to the rubber tube ?) on my Rotary Extreme unit. In a perfect world, I probably would have gotten HKS (I really like their product) but at 2X more expensive there is no way.

Since I now have a flowbench, I'd like to do some flow testing for each system. I just need people in the Houston area who can stop by and let me test them. I'll compare flow to the stock box. You'll see alot of flow testing from me in the next year posted here. No more speculating!

I hope you'll have the chance to measure all of the aftermarket intakes, from the most simple (MS) to the most expensive one (HKS)

There are. We have a club meet Tuesday night. I'm going to try to arrange a club meet sometime in February (hopefully) that explains the workings of a flowbench and show how testing is in fact beneficial. You guys probably won't see much until after the new year though.

The "velocity stack" I am referring to is the piece which is visible in the factory airbox when you remove the filter. It is the flared, black plastic thing on the end of the intake tube. My guess is that the idle issues with some aftermarket units are created when the "stack" and screens are no longer there to even the airflow across the MAF sensor. Otherwise, my Rotary Extreme intake tube shares the same internal dimensions as the factory unit.
