best exhaust/intake

I was planning to get a greddy sp2 exhaust with a k&n intake. what do you guys think? Im kinda broke but I do want quality products. And can anyone tell me any horsepower differences between greddy sp2/evo2/titanium for the 8? or for the k&nversus Rotary extreme? Thanks

Save your money. You won't get noticeable additional power from an intake or exhaust - what you're buying is the different sound. The intake vendors and buyers who've dyno tested the mods are posting best-case scenarios of an intake making 6 hp - and that's only above 6K rpm, below that they make nothing if you're lucky. If you're not lucky, you lose a little power at the bottom end and mid-range. One dyno test of an intake AND exhaust showed a peak gain of 8 hp (that was Poman Ferrari), and those two items will cost you about $700 at a minimum.

Do you think you could feel an 8 hp difference? It might be barely noticeable, but you'd really have to be looking for it to notice it. Something like the Canzoomer Stage 1 ECU mod, which sells for $750 now, gives 20 hp from 5500rpm up to redline. That is supposed to be easy to notice, and would seem to be a much better use of $700 than an intake and/or exhaust which will not change your performance significantly.

It is your decision, after all, but if you're really broke - do yourself a favour, save your money!

Gordon

is there any difference from the exhausts made by Rotary Extreeme, Rx8store.com etc?

The Rotary Extreme exhaust looks like it would be the best flowing, if for no other reason than because it has no 90 degree bends in the piping. It also looks to use straight through mufflers.

But these things are not necessarilly the panacea of ideal exhaust design and flow, so the only way one can be sure is to try all the different exhausts on the same car, and dyno them with the same equipment - not exactly the most practical thing to do.

But these exhausts will all be close in how much they help performance, so I'd suggest you buy on price, looks, and sound.

Alphapenguin - I'm in Columbus as well. Anytime that you would like to check out my RX8Store exhaust and CanZoomers Stage 1 just let me know. The RX8Store is in Hilliard should you ever want to stop by and see the exhaust off the car. My stock piece is still over there for a comparo. PM me if you'd like to get together or if you would like additional info on anything.

I have write-ups on both the my exhaust and Stage 1 if you do a search. Enjoy!
