bang for my bucks?
Alright, i have been saving up money to put into my 8 since i got it last year. After car payments, gas and stuff i have scavenged a little chunk that i would saftly say, would be ok to spend. Yes, there probably are some past threads about this but im in a hurry and i got to get to work soon so if anyone would be so kind to inform me or even just give me links to look at.
Im looking to spend around 2-4k and i wondered what will give me the most for the money, even if its 1 single thing or 4 small items. Im def. not looking to rice my car out and put a big ass exaust on it, but i guess i would do it for a last resort. Any comments are welcome |
You could void your warrantee and get the Greddy turbo. I think others will agree that'll probably be the biggest bang for your buck if you're looking for straight up performance. In doin' so you'll eventually need a new clutch to handle the extra power. Otherwise there's always added looks. The 8 is a sexy beast but with a few extra touches it can be a porn star, just without the sex and nakedness. :p Happy modding!

how much do the new clutches run? and so i can understand it better, why cant mine handle it?

best bang for ur buck are suspension parts. get sways/ coilovers/ struts and your car will be a totally different beast! it will feel like a whole new car and not change your appearance except for making it lower.

I'd classify the greddy turbo as more of a "whimper" for the buck, not a bang..
Stick with suspension mods and the couple bolt on NA mods that exist. The greddy kit looks like an expensive way to void your warranty for meager or nonexistant gains. The aftermarket has simply not gotten anywhere with this car yet. |

The aftermarket has simply not gotten anywhere with this car yet. For $4,000 you can get a Greddy turbo, installation & tuning, but would need about another $500 for Blow off valve, Boost Gauge. If you want big gain, everyday hp/tq gain the turbo is the way to go. If this is for 1/4 mile racing then Nitrous might be a good deal cheaper, fast street driving turbo, or other upcoming kits. I do agree that suspension upgrades were a very good purchase. With Racing Beat suspension it is much better. Other than that I wouldn't listen to someone when they say little to no gain with a turbo. So 1+ sec. off the 1/4 mile time is "little". ? Try spending $4K on NA mods I doubt you would even get half that. |
Handling - Braking - Power
The Big Three in That Order, or just get some nice rims and a tint job and go to the beach :) |

There are plenty of posts floating around this forum about wildly varying dyno results from the Greddy. This is why its questionable. I *know* how turbos add power, and I *know* that there aren't any really worthwhile NA mods to do at this time. But it would be far better to wait for a better engineered FI product that doesn't cut corners by leaving out essential parts of a PROPER turbo system.
