B&B Midpipe and catback installed
 

Both parts are the highest quality, the manufacturing is seamless, and the finished polish is great. Both parts are signifigantly lighter than stock also.
At idle the car sounds great, just like the catback would sound alone, at mid and full throttle it's extremely loud, I can't really compare the sound to anything else iv'e heard.
As far as performance goes, I feel more of a push, but it's hard to notice because i'm still trying to overcome the sound. I'm most likley going to have to install a resonator on the midpipe.

Check engine light has not come on.

Congrats tony, hopefully you can make it out to the races tomorrow night so i can get it on my digital camcorder and post it on here. Im dieing to see what kind of flames the 8 will shoot without cats. :D

Gongrats! Told ya it was loud with out the cat. Glad to here you like it. Make sure you don't get black flaged like I did for exceading the tracks db level for the morning hours.

Well let me say this, on rhe road course at 9:20 in the AM the car registered 99db on the back straight. The limit was 95db before 10:00 AM. I had to sit that session out. That was before the resonator.

How loud is it with with the resonator on?

You said without the cat, is the bb midpipe now offered with a cat?

Yes, it is now offered with a resonator, the price is $275. Here's a pic of mine after B&B put in the resonator. Yes, it's discolored from the heat generated at the track. They kept the size down as not to add unwanted wieght and bulk. Of course this is the prototype and all new pipes will come fully polished and unused. LOL

That looks great, can you notice a considerable difference in the sound levels?

Yes, the sound is deeper and more drivable for around town. Though as typical with cat-less rotarys, at WOT the sound is still loud.

You said it was only a prototype, do you know when it will be out. I will most likley purchase that one.

They will are in production now and should be finished in a few weeks.

dang...is there anyway you can post a sound clip...cause I am considering this but was looking at the R-Magic hi flow with resonator mid-pipe because B&B was straight through and I have to consider street driving the 8 since it IS also a daily driver...I just can't justify $1300 for the R-Magic mid-pipe...any help here would be great!...

What about the Random Technologies high flow/high temp cat w/ resonator that Canzoomer is selling? SR Motorsports has their own brand one as well...

hey huff...just curious...with the resonator now on..is there a performance difference with the resonator off and on?? or not even noticeable?

I may take a look at those also..i think there are several SE owners that are taking part in the Stage II GB so hopefully if any are from Georgia i can shoot on over and check out the dB levels...i haven't found a pic of these yet either...i think R Magics so far looks the best but it's way outta my price range...

The difference in performance isn't noticable.

What kind of O2 simulator did you use?

I have been told that some of them work and some don't. Do you know the data ranges that it has to work to i.e. the Voltages....

I haven't used an O2 simulator. I'm used to the CEL. I don't know the voltage ranges for the O2 sensors. If I did I'd probably make my own.

Hi Huff, I thought that the car needed a certain reading from the fore and aft O2 sensors to adjust the mixture accordingly. By removing the cat, the aft sensor must be making the car run wrong? No?

I am trying to figure this out as here in the UK there are very few people that have even slightly touched on this area with the RX-8, so not much info available. My car goes in tommorrow (wednesday) to have a custom 3.5" stainless steel system made. There we be 3 different systems made for the car with dyno tests. We are planning a full race system (very noisey), a road system and then the cat removal pipe. From this we will be able to see from the 6 different configurations:

1: Standard.
2: Standard back box, with cat removal.
3: Race back box.
4: Race back box, cat removal.
5: Road back box.
6: Road back box, cat removal.

What each does to the power in different places on the power curve etc etc. They will all be dyno'd on the same day, so this will show us the best configuaration.

The only problem so far is that by not 'fooling' the rear O2 sensor the car might over or under fuel and give wrong power readings?

These are all speculations as we do not know anything about this car in terms of performance mods.
Can anybody help with any info on any of this? Please.

An improper reading from the rear O2 sensor will throw the PCM into limp mode after the second 2 minute run of the engine.

Once the CEL is set, you can count on an overly rich mix and retarded ignition timing.

What is the CEL, and how do you stop this overly rich and retarded situation from happening if you want to remove the cat?
