Axial Flow Short Shifter... is this normal?

I've had the short shifter for about 2 months now... I love it compared to the stock... but it def much louder then the stock when shifting... its the worst going in and out of 2nd gear... like a rubbing together noise at the bottom of it... the problem is really bad when I have the shift knob (just the stock one) screwed tightly down... when I loosen it up a lot much of the rubbing noise goes away... is this kind of behavoir normal? Its def not a grinding noise... just a really profound rubbing.
