APEXi Super AFC

Hey Guys! A very proud New Lightning Yellow Rx-8 Owner Here from Atl, Ga...I am curious if anyone has used the Apexi Afc's
or not. I understand that the configurations for the Rx-8 would have to be done by the user (or a pro). Any feedback would be great!

Read Maniac's Posts about the emanage. I am convinced that is a better option after having installed my SAFCII. Of course I didn't have a lot of time to tune my SAFCII, but the Emanage is practically the same price and with a little bit of work, can also control your timing.

welcome to the club!

in short, it's difficult, if not impossible, to get the SAFC to work as each rotor fires 3 times (with two sperate maps for each plug) per revolution, as opposed to 1 in a 4 stroke motor. you're better off spending the extra money on an emanage, if you want that flexibility. definately check out Canzoomer's units in the vendor forums, they come with very reliable maps and now user tunability if you want to that too.

then buy one from my GB :)

Yeah, my understanding is those "tuners" won't really provide any benefit unless you've got some type of forced induction, i.e. turbo.

Tx for the response guys! I suppose after I get my new Viper alarm installed Ill place my CZ order as I was curious about the AFC before I made any final decisions. WHen ppl pull up next to me on the road and ask 'Is it as much fun to drive as it looks?'
I say 'Yep..my s2000 has been gathering dust every day since I picked it up!'

Well, we did it.. and is not easy..

The s-afc is no harder to hook up on the Rx-8, as it is to hook up on any other car. Get a wiring diagram for the Rx-8, and your good to go. CJ

oahudvr 03-05-2004 01:23 PM

How did you hook up the S-AFC, I have been trying to find a wiring diagram?

MazdaManiac 03-05-2004 01:27 PM

Hooking up the S-AFC is easy.
Making more power with it isn't.
As a matter of fact, because of the way the S-AFC reads RPM, the maps won't be accurate.
The S-AFC would be a waste of money on the RX-8.

pp13bnos 03-05-2004 03:30 PM

You can adjust it to a 2cyl, and it will read the correct RPMs. But I must agree that the s-afc is'nt the best choice out there. But it is easy to hook up. :) CJ

oahudvr 03-05-2004 04:28 PM

So what would you suggest to produce more power. Also, if I do decide to go with the s-afc, how do you hook it up?

MichRX7 03-05-2004 08:20 PM

Canzoomer's piggyback ECU is the way to go. You can get more information on it in the Vendors section of this forum.

No wire cutting, pretty much plug and play!

pp13bnos 03-06-2004 01:45 AM

If I where you, I'd wait anouther 6-12 months before getting a upgraded ecu. By that time, I know for a fact....there will be a couple plug-n-play, fully programable ecus out there. CJ

CZ's stage 3 will be fully programable and plug and play. It is a Stage 2 with cable and hardware to adjust all the levels. Great for those of us who are going with F/I.

MazdaManiac 03-06-2004 04:37 AM

Look HERE for info on the Greddy E-Manage.
At the moment, it is the most versatile tool available for tuning the RX-8 and is extremely easy to install.
