Anyone got info about the Mazdaspeed RX8?

I 've been looking in the forums and find that most Mazdaspeed parts can be bought for the 2004 RX-8. What I heard though is that the Mazdaspeed version that will be out will be turbo'ed is this true? If this is I am going to be pissed unless I can slap on the turbo to my existing RX-8. I just dropped a ton of money on the GT model with all the little stupid options, only to find out a week later there are plans for the MS version of it for a bit more! ARG!

Theres at least 2 mazdaspeed versions of the 8 in ezistence already. Neither are turbo'd. Both are limited editions.

You can get close with mazdaspeed parts.

IF theres a turbo version of the 8 expect it to be announced at the tokyo motorshow in October, it'll be an electricaly assisted turbo if anything. No idea it they will offer a dealer fit conversion kit, but I doubt it.

this year was the miata and the next mazdaspeed care will be the 6. I hear it's awd with a 3.5 engine.

I honestly don't think Mazda has any intentions of FI for the 8 at all.

I read somewhere on the net , Motor Treand, under the "Future Models" section I think, The RX8 will remain the same, they plan on brining back the RX7, basicly same idea ,the sporty, road race version, it will be two seater , shorter and widers than RX8, (which would lighten it up some)somewhere like 300hp attainded with a larger displacement rotary, not turbo or supercharged. I forget exactly what year like 06 or 07.

It makes sense as Mazda has always the RX8 is not a replacement for the RX7 and the RX7 proved that turbo charged rotaries are maint nightmars. They basicly got all the hp they can get from the current renesis engine, short of boosting it and you have to admit they did a good job since the last RX7 with sequential turbo was only 255hp. So it makes sence if they can just design a litttle larger displacement engine of same design they can get the hp they want without boost., which keeps it dependable,

uh, ok... The last RX-7's were 280bhp minimum, and probably more. They also sorted out the turbo/heat problems on stock cars, but a lot were modified out of spec - cant blame mazda for that.

The renesis is a totaly different engine, different seal materials, tips, rotors etc - a turbo should be ok.

A new RX7 still isnt a done deal, and dont believe anything you see / hear until mazda unveil it. We can all guess at its specs, 8 platform, shorter, 300bhp, 1100-1200kg etc, but if it happens, who knows.

what?

i thought the FD is 255 HP?

RobDickinson 07-01-2004 04:41 AM

The rx-7 was in production in Japan until nearly the end of 2002.

The latter 7's were 280bhp, but never sold in the US.

280bhp is a bit of a fixed number in Japan tho, they dont ever quote over that because of an agreement between manufacturers.

by the time the ms rx8 gets to us
you could build your own

but it will cost a bunch

Any MAZDASPEED RX-8, new RX-7, or even just turbo RX-8 is likely to cost an arm and a leg. I could easily see the turbo car pushing $40k.

It's not like someone who buys a 2004 or 2005 NA 8 is getting a bad deal.

Now, 2004 Pontiac GTO owners are likely a little p!ssed because the 2005 will have 400hp (up from 350) standard, but that's different than a costly special edition of a car.

RobDickinson I am pretty sure everywhere I had read that the last us production RX7 was 255 bhp. Anything more than that was all pure modified. And everything I have read and talking tio an RX7 owner , they all say the RX7 was maint nightmare, the main reason they sell so cheap. Not just turbo problems , but many other problems.

We had many turbo sport cars to choose from at one time, Toyota Supra twin turbo, Nissna 300zx squeantial turbo, RX7 sequential turbo, Mitubishi 3000 sequential turbo. All are gone, I think the maufacters had it with maint , warenty work headackes from turbos. I really doubt we will see any more turbo sports cars come back, I dont Mazda will put a turbo the renisis rotary either. That elec powered blower sounds like a doable idea.
