anyone else waiting for a worthy first mod?

hey, i kinda made a promise with my mom that i would not modify my car, but i really want just an intake/exhaust wheels setup. i hope intake is possible without voiding the factory warranty, i know exhaust modification probably would.

i guess what im trying to say is......i have money to blow and i can only think about spending it on my baby. i just want a mod that will not void the factory warranty but will give some extra performance or bling.

Go for the Borla exhaust for now, then wait for someone to come out wit FI.

Moral convictions aside (promise? What promise? ), the very best thing you could spend money on to make your car both faster and safer would be to send yourself to a driving school, like Bondurant or Skip Barber. Best part is that it won't only make your RX-8 faster, it will make every car you drive faster and safer.

Intake mods can affect the engine warranty, but more importantly canzoomer's tests have shown that there is very little power to be gained from that - the stock intake setup is very good already. You could easily lose power by slapping on a generic pipe and cone filter style intake.

Go ahead and put bling wheels on, because you can truthfully tell your mom that they make the car slower, not faster. She won't care that the ride will get worse and that the handling won't be as good, right?

Gordon

A promise would be for forever, or until you re-negotiate the terms. Don't they teach you kids anything? ;) If you agreed to this, then (assuming your word and integrity is worth anything to you) you can't break it. Ever. Simple, isn't it?

Now if you go discuss your desire to make changes when the time is appropriate and reach an understanding (ie permission or concurrence) that it is now OK to do mods (perhaps with conditions or restrictions), THEN it's OK. :)

Gordon

gordon, i can see that you are a very reasonable person, and you have lots of common sense and are probably fairly intelligent, or have kids of your own.

see, i didnt really make a promise with my mom not to modify the car. the reason i ended up with my 8 was because i had been buying used cars, and i had fairly bad luck with them. i have no one to blame for myself for purchasing these vehicles, but i still feel i was unlucky. my mom decided she didnt want me to worry about car troubles for the next few years and decided to sign for my 8. (i make the payments, mind you). so its kinda like a promise because i dont want to have any chance of the factory warranty being ruined, or anything to go wrong with the car. now i know that exhausts/intake wheels are aftermarket parts, but what harm did they ever do to a car? im not talking about 100 shots of nitrous or custom single turbo setups. just some bolt ons. i welcome the comments gordon, you sound like a stand up guy.

Well being 30 myself now this reminds me of the co-sign deal with my dad on that ruby ford 1989 1/2 mustang gt convertible 25 anniversary edition.I promised not to mod it or drive in an unreasonable manner LOLOOLOLOLOL.Well needless to say after 18 points on driving record and a vortec supercharger later he didnt sign for anymore cars.
