Any interest in a hi-flow cat for the RX8?
I just built a hi-flow cat for 93+ Rx7s and was wondering if there is interest in something similar for the RX8 crowd.
Metal substrate catalytic convertors - the type I used for my FD exhaust and am now planning to use in this future project - is a relatively new design and is designed to have a very high flow rate. They're also lighter and more compact than traditional catalytic convertors. Here's the the cat I had built for several FD owners: https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/KIF_1816.jpg You can clearly see the relatively small catalytic convertor section for emissions reduction, which more closely resembles a resonated chamber than a catalytic convertor in appearance. I am hoping to receive feedback (constructive criticism, praise, etc) about this product that I've been planning on building for RX8 owners. I would like to say that I am not offering anything up for sale at the moment. Nothing has been built; I'm simply gauging interest on this idea of mine, and it seems that posting on an RX8-specific internet forum is a good way to go about doing so. |
Honestly, how much more is this efficient than a straight-through pipe?
I certainly might be totally wrong, but the diminutive size of this 'cat' makes me think getting a pipe is almost the same as far as the environment goes, and that solution would be a lot cheaper. This one cetainly wouldn't pass the visual inspection in places where there is such a requirement - then what's the point? Someone please explain... |
Basically I am planning on offering a more affordable alternative to this:
http://rx7.com/store/rx8/rx8exhaust.html#supercat |
if it's a metallic cat it doesn't have to be large in length or diameter because the individual core honeycomb walls are thinner
the difference with an FD though is the turbo knocks down a lot of the exhaust noise, an RX-8 without a resonator after the cat will tend to be boomy |
How much more affordable is it going to be. So far the supercat has been getting good reviews from rx8 owners, so i dont know how badly other people will want an alternative to it.

I'd be interested. You may want to add another resonator to it though so its not ricey sounding.
|
is the cat going to be from bonez?
i wodlliek a high flwo cat...haven't picked up the supercat by RP due to the fact i don't have the money :(...so i woudln't mind an less exspensive alternative..as long as it dilivers what it's supposed to |
Where were you in Feb? That's when I purchased the RP...? Is this the same CAT? Looks like it...

I hate to break it to you but that "ricey" sound you mention is what rotary engines do, the people with piston engines try to emulate the rotary sound, I guess it only makes sense that rotary owners want to emulate a piston engine sound |

was this to me? ah well i'll answer even if it isn't...lol i have no idea where i was in feb. probable spending the money i don't have now to get a high-flow cat. LOL |

I'd be interested as long as it'd last, have the O2 bung, and not throw a CE light :)
|
I'd be interested also.
Your FD one looks very similar to the RP bonez supercat one. |
