Another "what mod next" thread...
My rx8 has a Racing Beat Catback, Agency Power Midpipe, and Racing Beat Intake w/ the air duct.
Can you guys just give me an idea of what would be the best performance mod for me to get next? I dont mean anything extreme like a turbo, something that wont strangle my wallet but would make a difference. Thanks, Craig. |
The answer can be very subjective. It all depend on what you do with the car and what you want out of the car.
Start here. https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...rx-8-a-233937/ |
Thanks for that link.
My question now is, how difficult is it to put a header on an 8? And would an ECU tune be very benficial fo me? |
You have alot of searching to do... Start by looking up the Cobb accessport. Assuming you have a series 1
There are plenty of header threads out there. Look around for them. Since you don't seem to want to do any internal engine mods (porting) or FI, there's no real need for a header. Hard to justify the expense. |
Well I definitely have some researching to do.
Thanks for the help. |
The driver.

Fender strakes. It streamlines the air coming out of the vents and air coming alongside the car. It reduces drag and increases acceleration and cornering.
I have based my opinion on absolutely nothing |

You are probably better making a list of where YOU hit the limits of YOUR car, and prioritizing those than to just blindly changing stuff that other people say you should. :) |
I think he's just wanting to mod his car for the hell of it like we all have done at a certain point, You guys remember. Getting the slotted rotors when you never go to the track, or multiple "power adders" just for the fun factor/bragging rights. People forget what it was like to be young and walk into checker and be in awe of all the shiny stuff in the "hop up" isle lol
It's all about personal preference though Craig. I've had numerous vehicles of different sorts from boosted 4 bangers to big power v8's. I like the 8 because it's plain and simply "fun to drive" It may not be the fastest in a straight line but man does it rev, shift, and drive smooth as butter :-D I used to think that it was cool to drive around a 300+hp beater because it was fast but you soon realize that it's the little things like power windows and working power steering...clearcoat on the paint lmao that makes the difference ;-) I'm sure everyone else here would agree that they'd much rather have their 8 than a civic hatch with every skunk2 upgrade out there because when it comes down to it the 8 is a legitimate sports car where as the civic is a family car. You definately have more options though owning an s1, you can go the forced induction route if you want to so that you'll be faster in a straight line or work on other aspects to make it handle better. I'm sure one thing everyone would recommend to get although you may already have one is the BHR ignition, it's a little pricey but probably the cheapest most practical mod. You can post up a pic of the coils and everyone will be able to tell you if you've got one or not. Regardless just have fun with it and make it your own :-) What you like isn't always what someone else likes but that's what makes your car unique! |
I have 2 grand to spend on mine. It's completely stock. I was thinking hks single exit exhaust,ap midpipe, aem intake, and koni yellows and springs or something??

Saving wouldn't be a bad idea. I just sold a different car and wanted to put some of it into the 8.

If the track has any kind of sound limit restriction you will exceed it. That and it will sound like shit. The AP midpipe is cheep for a reason. I had the same exhaust setup and I was embarrassed to drive around town. If you decide to get the HKS buy a better quality midpipe like the BHR one. The tone difference is night and day.
If you have a series 1 rx8 I would just buy an Accessport and get it tuned. I would also leave the suspension alone until you really understand how to control the car with it's stock suspension. If you can't drive well with the stock setup modifying the suspension isn't going to help you. |
you can add bolt ons, but ain't gonna give you much gains.
Usually people would start with CAI, under drive pulley, mid-pipe, cat-back, headers. your gonna see little gains with those. Cobb Ap is worth the investment. Race Roots or Bhr ignition is a plus. Cooling- since you say you wanna track your car. Bhr radiator good stuff but it's pricey. if your on a budget a Mizu radiator is good, plus flex a lite fans, New hoses. Brakes- you be happy with Hawk hps pads, SS brake lines, and motul brake fluid if your fancy. Suspension, sway bars, end links, strut bars, chassis bracing, coil-overs. would be a start |
damn beat me too it ^^
|
Thank you for your input. I think i need the dampeners though as i frequently hit the bump stops in the rear. Unless that's normal. I'm not looking to get any radical racing coilovers. I think that's too extreme for my application.

Koni yellows then

Thank you guys for the advice.
