air intakes
Hi guys.... i have a question. Can you tell me whitch intakes will be the best for my 2004 mazda , where i can buy it and step by step maybe you can show me pictures or you know where is some movie HOW to install because i dont have a lot of experience with car modification. THX

Stock intake beats 95% of the aftermarket intakes - the best you can do is leave it stock, unless you just want "louder", there is no horsepower to be made.

the best thing to do is...
1) K&N drop in air filter 2) remove ONE of the Screens 3) remove the fins inside of the airbox unit. There is a DIY on it. please feel free to ask me any Questions you may have The K&N cost about $50 brand new. |
I would recommend you search this section of the forum. There is a ton already discussed on air intakes here.
The three most popular are the Racing Beat, K&N Typhoon V2, and Mazdaspeed. Pretty much there is only 2-3 hp to be gained from an intake alone and not where your dollar is best spent by itself. |
I've K&N and so far its good. I have no clue if its made any power, throttle response seems better. Other than that it sounds amazing.
|
I agree with StealthTL and lilring. The stock intake is perfectly fine, just but the k&n drop in filter for $50 and you should be fine. If you want you could buy the racing beat ram air duct for better flow.

Racing Beat is the best.
Please search next time. |
k&n drop in filter

But there may be 5HP to 10HP to be achieved with better air flow, colder air, and ram air. Corrections: 1) K&N drop in air filter or R-Magic air filter (less restrictive, maybe 5HP more) 2) remove ONE of the Screens 3) remove the fins inside of the airbox unit. (see here- https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-better-flowing-intake-box-similar-rb-intake-box-130332/ ) Note- Combined with a less restrictive air filter and CAI duct, you may see greater performance as there is greater flow of air. 4) Get CAI duct (Odula) or Ram CAI duct (Racing Beat, Re-Amemiya, etc...) 5) Replacing the entire air intake box or replacing the air intake bell mouth (as the stock one is not truly round and cut at the bottom) might have a positive effect. The problem here is the shape and restrictiveness of the air filter may be a factor. So replacing the air intake box and using a certain type of air filter may not give you better results. The stock filter and less restrictive replacement air filters are very wide, so there is a large area for flow of air. A replacement cone type filter may not flow as much air. A truly circular bell mouth in the intake box may be of help, if combined with the other things above. |

1 HP PER SCREEN about
|
The screens are there for a purpose, if you don't know what they do, don't remove them - they are not just to keep moths out of your throttle.......
When you understand their purpose, and the downside of their removal, you can make an educated judgement on whether you are still willing to incurr the performance penalty involved. Just sayin'....... S |
..so what would be the best thing to do...is to leave the intake stock?...cuz im plannin to chnge mine out soon and might go with the Mazdaspeed intake...i need feedback wether or not i should do it...how much louder will it make my car...?
|
I think the best thing to do is read up on the info on the forum. There's a bunch of people out here who have already done that you should ask them via. PM.
As far as loud. What is loud to you? It is something you'll have to hear for yourself to decide. I would recommend you try to meet up with someone local that has the setup you're looking for and see what it sounds like first hand. |

Of course, the intake will still look stock. But if you want to go for aftermarket cool instead of actual performance gains, there is a thread around here for a turbo sound mod. |
Yes, please search intake intakes intakes
