I was on the ARC site the other day and saw they offer a replacement water pulley for the RX-8, kind struck me as odd that they offer it in both +5% and -5% sizes :dunno:

turbosa22c 01-05-2007 09:40 PM

did anybody notice any difference in water temps with the ap pulley under track use?

DaveCM203 01-06-2007 08:49 AM

I will try to find it and post it. I have a mag that compared hp gains with various bolt ons. Underdrive pullies were one of them. I know it would vary from car to car. But at the time I had that planned as one of my first mods. It changed my mind. I will still do it, but it is not a priority anymore. A lot of small changes do add up to a lot. It is worth it for the money as part of a total package. My 2 cent.

damn, i should have become an Agency Power distributor.

You're not going to see any temp change unless you change the thermostat ...

SoFL_RX8 01-10-2007 09:07 AM

I never threw a CEL when I did my AP pulley install. Then again though, I did flood my car :( Thats what I get for moving into the garage to work and not letting it warm up!

peterisurhero 01-27-2007 12:18 AM

juss bought this and installed it the moment it arrived. it was quite a hard installation because getting down to the pulley was hard. but overall it went well. anyways juss gotta say that i do feel a difference. i know its my butt dyno but juss lettin people know that i did feel a difference. even my girlfriend who didn't know bout the pulley thought my car felt a bit quicker. juss my 2 cents.

underdrive pulleys can help on the track by reducing waterpump cavitation. whether or not you see any temp change on your stock coolant gauge is mute. Its a dummy gauge. Also as Team has said before (and I) to really see a temp differance we have to get the thermostat changed. Thats the 1st step to really street test this cooling system .

is the t-stat unique to the RX-8?

turbosa22c 01-27-2007 01:32 PM

thermostat opens at 180? using a scan tool ive seen temps upto 205 degrees cruising on the freeway w/ambient temp at 85. i havent done any wot runs and checked temps yet.

turbosa22c 01-27-2007 01:32 PM

does the rx8 have dual thermostats?

LiL BenNy 02-07-2007 09:05 PM

does anyones belt slip when its cold/ wet? i think mine slip but idk if its depending on the occasion or not.. if they slip do they need to be tightened or loosened?

Righty tighty

Mazda-Rati 02-08-2007 05:52 AM

IIRC, the torque for the Crank/Alternator belt is 18lbs and the A/C belt is 38lbs.

olddragger 02-08-2007 07:07 AM

yes our thermostat is unique in the fact that no other one will fit and we have no aftermarket one available yet.(That I know of) if people want to keep the coolant temps below 200 then the thermostat needs to be fully open below 200 to test the capacity of the cooling system to maintan itself in that temp range. Without that you are fighting yourself.

i would think that the best way to determine if there are any whp gains would be to do a before and after dyno....
just my $ .02

:D:

PS...vendor results are not trustworthy in general...i once saw an add for AEM CAI with "increases up to 9whp"......
and that was on the RX8

Mazda-Rati 02-08-2007 07:50 AM

^Sadly, AEM quoted 15HP and 12ft. lbs!!! so you are being nice with only quoting 9

Sweet, but that dyno is from a forum member, and it just happens to be posted on the vendor site.

Just installed mine...doing the runnning in thing, and will see if it makes a diference after a while......

toxin440 02-21-2007 09:56 AM

installed mine last sunday -- Took me longer then normal because I had a few idiot moments.

I can KINDA tell it revs up faster, no real effect on my butt dyno. No negative effects at all on the electrical side (even though I'm running an upgraded custom system - no subs though)

I'm sure the pulleys help - but you wont notice a TON of power - they were cheap and DIY fairly easy so I say its a good fun mod if you get bored and want a little face time with your engine. Unless you are running a high power audio system with big subs - there isnt really a reason to NOT do it, unless you are broke :-p

LOL yeah if the gf/wife is giving you grief you need to play with something else

MrToeknee 02-28-2007 03:09 PM

Install mine on the Sunday that just passed and I must say that my car feels faster. Install didn't take long at all. Maybe because on top of the install, I did the rb exhaust and revi air duct. Car does rev a little faster. As far as the electrical system no effects what so ever. I have a 10" JL w6v2 pushed by a viper 600.1 and nothing goes wrong at idle. I haven't pushed my system all the way since the install and I don't want to. A/C still feels just as cold as before. So what I'm trying to say is I LOVE IT! Recommended.

eviltwinkie 02-28-2007 04:51 PM

Agreed...I installed mine about two weeks ago along w/ a midpipe and green air filter...must say that it feels better overall...I'd also recommend the pulley...
