Aftermarket Suppliers Look Here for Products to Produce for the 8
 

I thought I would list some proposed aftermarket parts for performance.

1. Air Intake
Replace the Stock Airbox for free flow and save weight

2. Headers
Stock header design seems to be able to be improved on. Removes the silencer also.

3. Cat and Straight Pipe
Remove Cat and replace with high flow cat or straight pipe. Save weight and free flow. Will have to be used in conjunction with ECU to kill 02 signal problems.

4. Exhaust
System to replace the Muffler with smaller version to save weight, free flow, and increase exhaust note.

5. Airpump Removal
For those that remove the cat. Will save extra weight.

6. ECU
Maybe something for stock cars and also ones for free flow intake and exhaust systems. Also remove the flywheel effect that reviewers seem to be finding when taking foot off the gas.

7. Full Intake System
Free flow sytem replace whole intake system maybe reuse throttle body and wire flow meeter. Will hurt low end performance but with the amount of intake track for the variable exhaust should help top end out considerably. Save weight, flow better and decrease complexity in intake system.

THe press pack has pics of the intake and exhaust system to show where I believe performance improvements could be had.

Let's see...for me it would have to be:

1)Upgrades shock spring package, true coil-over with higher rate springs and double adjustability. I believe Tein is already working on something...

2)Low pressure Eaton-type supercharger which sits on top of the engine replacing the complicated intake system. Make it good for 320hp or so.

3)Brake kit. Bigger brakes, 13" rotors with aluminum hats, 4-6pot aluminum monobloc calipers to shed a few pounds per corner

4)Body kits body kits body kits....in URETHANE! Stick to the classy, using RX7 examples such as FEED, Auto Exe, Knight Sports, PanSpeed..stay away from Veilside combat stuff...too Honda and too yesterday. Gag me, LOL. The Mazdaspeed version is quite nice.

5)Sort of along the lines of above, but aftermarket vented hoods would be nice. Naturally, in carbon fiber

6)Swaybars. Something larger in diameter, adjustable and HOLLOW.

7)Turbo kit! Please, use a quality, designed in the last 10 years turbo such as something from IHI or Garrett Ballistic series...none of the crappy GReddy aka Mitsubishi you can't rebuild them crap.

8)Update the Mazdaspeed seats! Seriously...those were available for the third gen RX7 10 years ago....

9)Anything that makes more hp AND more torque...god knows we don't need to loose more torque.

2. Larger radiator- Keep water temps in check for track days

3. Larger Oil coolers- Keep oil temps in check for track days

4. Carbon fiber rear deck lid- save weight

5. Carbon fiber center drive shaft- save weight, quicker accelaration

6. High performance clutch/ press plate/lighter flywheel

7. SS brake lines to go with the "big brake kit" mentioned above

8. Integrate "cold air induction" through a hood scoope, and of course some inverted ducting to direct hot air out of the engine bay (hood done in carbon to save weight)

The thing is by doing all of this, you will essentially be building your own MPS RX-8... and personally I'd rather just wait and get it from the factory. There's no guarantee it works perfectly together when you add all aftermarket parts in, which is why I'll keep my RX-8 stock, and trade up to the MPS RX-8 in a few years.

The MPS version does not mean that you have the best performance parts available. I would rather have the ability to choose where and what products I put on my vehicle. Sure the MPS version would be one way to go, but I'm sure that using aftermarket parts you will be able to gain more horsepower. The MPS version will surely have to meet EPA requirements, which means there will be better performance parts available for offroad use only. Also suspension setups will be available that will most likely exceed anything put on by mazdaspeed. Its more fun modding yourself, than buying it that way, at least to me.

If you look at the MS version of the RX7, it's much tamer than many of the other aftermarket examples found in Japan. It's a very "safe" vehicle, but not necessarily the best performing. It's a step up from the stock car. I'd expect a MS version of the 8 to be the same, very safe but an increase in performance. I'm sure it'll work very very well together, but for the price, you may be able to get those unobtanium parts you desire and tailor them to your needs/wants. It's like purchasing stock wheels for the FD...they run about $600 new. For that I can get 18" Volks that are wider and identical in weight. It may be the same with the Mazdaspeed version. Cost may be prohibitive and what if you already own an RX8? And heck, tuning/playing is half the fun, right? :-)

I know I have should have posted this in the body kit forum but I would like a hood similar to the first Rx-8 concept with the vents near the windshield.

1) someone please crack the ECU and make a chip for it

2) suttle valances on all side, no need for body kit for me

3) quality CF hood with 2 vents nothing more, and NO hood scoops / Nostrils please. (i wonder what would an old school matte black hood would look on silver... hummm)

4) good quality wing is acceptable, not the couter top aluminum kind nor the Cheperral kind

5) Sparco, get your act together and put a rail and mouting brackets for this car!

6) sway bars, suspention bits and pieces, i.e. bushings, camber plates, aluminum arms?, adjustable shocks!! don't care much about lowering springs or weight of the springs until i've driven the car

7) don't just go eaton scharges, go for the centrifigual s/c found in Spoon S2k, yeah cost more but it sure seperate you from the rest of the crowd :D

8) oil cooler kit

2. freeflow exhaust
3. Skim the flywheel
4. Extend the ports <if possible on the renisis>
5. the obvious bucket seats <duh>
6. custom bodykit:cool: :cool: :cool: :D

RX7tt95, if you are going to go to bigger brakes, go to 14 or 15" they are 12.7 stock, I know you have better ways to spend your $$.

-Carbon bits, door sills, dash kit, consule lids ect, ie DGMotorsports.

-The MS Front end (If I can get one I will copy)

-Single Turbo, I want top end, no S/C for me. I want a Greddy TD06 or similar that comes with ECU, injectors, mani, ect with a nice bar and plate intercooler. a solid 10 psi kit that will net 400BHP(335whp) roughly.

14 or 15" brakes is complete overkill. More weight and more rotating weight. 13" diameter, small annular, and a wider width would suit a 2900lb. car just fine without upsetting the brake balance f/r to any great degree. Semi-agressive street pads, low dust, ie. Porterfield R4S pads, it'd be the perfect setup. Don't forget replacement costs either. I don't know too many individuals willing to pay $400 PER rotor when it comes time to replace. Slotted, cross drilled, no resurfacing. Luckily Coleman makes a replacement 13" rotor for my AP kit. Still, they're $210 each. Ouch :) FYI, the brake upgrades for the third gen RX7 all throw off the balance unless it's a front/rear setup. Even swapping in the 99-spec rear caliper and rotor doesn't completely solve the issue.

I have been pretty impressed by the braking performance in all the recent tests.

1. Vortech SC-hit that 9000 redline in no time.

2. Tein Suspension

3. Body Kits- FEED, Knightsport, Racing Beat, and definitely C-West

4. Intake, Exhaust, Downpipe, Mid-pipe, Exhaust Manifold-anything to do with air

5. New ECU, chip, or piggy back

6. Maybe a Turbo, still a little shaken up with mine (If you know what I mean $$$$$)

FEED and R Magic have ECUs but I havn't been able to find any spec on them. Anyone know what type of results they yield?
