After the Intake
 

Hey guys-- after deciden that my friends dont know as much as they say about cars-- i figured i'd come to the experts!

- so here i now have my 8 with the borla exhaust
- now i gotta make the logical next step into getting a intake

I already have started saving for a turbo though, and i was wondering from my mixed thoughts... Intake must be done after a turbo/SC is installed. Is this so? I have talked to a few local YOUNG tech's and they both said the oposite of eachother. So i figure they may not know about the rotary anyways... so here i am.

-Also which intake goes good w/ the borla?

Take that money you were going to spend on an intake and put it towards the turbo kit. Intakes in general on cars with well designed stock systems will yield almost no additional hp, and sometimes less horsepower than stock and can even cause problems with the MAF sensor. But then again I don't think catbacks are a very good mod, though some of them do sound great... If you're a sound guy go for it, but if you want performance catbacks and intakes are best saved for ricers, or heavily modded cars where you're trying to squeze every last bit of horsepower out of a car.

Well, you don't have too many choices with an intake. K&N and Rotary Extreme is what I can think of off the top of my head.

However, generally when you purchase a turbo kit it will have an intake designed for the turbo - at least from the one's I've seen.

I certainly didn't expect someone from Vivid to agree with me (I'm actually happy someone from Vivid isn't agreeing with me), so I can live with that. :D

Ok... we're all grown ups and have individual opinions, so relax. Here's mine:
I had an intake on my 94 del Sol VTEC. It worked and worked well at the VTEC transition point up til redline. The sound got old after a year though. Intakes on WRXes (which I also have) don't work as well and are notorious for CELs.
If you are saving for a turbo/super charger you best save your money as some kits have their own or will recommend not having anything. Take your 300 bucks save a little more and buy the Canzoomer in the meantime. It will give you way better performance for the $.

yea i was lookin at SSR's kit, but that price is crazy... and i think it's not made for the street or sumthen (too fast?). Canzoomer's mod i have wanted for a long time, but i thought that you needed his mod or the kit's ECU in order to have a turbo.

I'm not sure what you are asking.

In order to upgrade to a turbo, im pretty sure some work on the ECU must be done... would canzoomers mod still be able to be kept on?

I yanked my typoon in favor of the stock box with a green filter.

I agree from what I've seen the intakes for the 8 are more show (sound) and not enough go (power). Save a couple hundred more and invest in a CZ unit. From what I've read they are going to send quite a few units to user's that have been on the waiting list. Sit back and read the forthcoming feedback to see if the unit is worth it to you.

I agree that the CanZoomer unit is the best thing to buy next. You may wind up replacing it though when you get your FI... as you probably would with the intake. Most FI kits come with their own intake and PCM module. But if you DO decide you want to buy an intake, I'd definitely recommend the Rotary Extreme instead of the K&N. It's been proven to make a few ponies (The K&N has dyno charts too, but as far as I know, they have not been independantly verified as the RE's have) - and - the K&N causes idle problems for many that have it, while the RE rarely does. I have the RE on my car, and have had no problems with it. Just my 2 cents.

The green filter is a drop in. It supposedly filters better than the K&N, it also is suppose to let the engine breath better than the K&N drop in????? The filter itself is much thinner than stock in term of height. I have used the K&N (drop in) in the past on other cars and the tone never changed in the car. However with the green filter in the 8 the tone did change in reference to stock so I can only assume the engine is gettin a bit more air. I am very pleased with this set up over the aftermarket intakes.

Dude save your money and just wait for the turbo kit or buy a stage 1. Getting an intake will only produce a few horse which is pretty insignificant. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference, it would just sound louder.

hey man, where can i get a hold of one of these green filters? i think that will satisfy me for now till a turbo kit worth buyen is out... or least one that gives good horse for da $.
