Aem Cold Air Intake, Rain Problems
 

so it rained today for the first time after i installed my AEM cai.

and i noticed it was dripping wet...

is this okay? does the sock protect it from the rain?

doesn't really protect it no..

you will suck up water with that design regardless just try to avoid bigger puddles..

The sock will protect the filter from dirt & debris, but not water.
I know first hand that too much water inside the filter will allow water to rush into the engine while making accelerated turns.
You can remove the filter and let it air dry, but it'll take a couple days.
You can also remove the black rubber couplers connecting the straight pipes and see if water has made it up that far (it'll be noticeable).
But like alz0rz said... avoid large puddles.

CAI is only for racing, not everyday driving, but you can , just take care of the filter alot, and try to not drive in the rain i guess

yeah i just try not to drive in the rain... sometimes you cant help it tho. I dont think there is anything to worry about as long as you arent running through puddles.

K&N has a drycharger used for marine applications and, just find the right size, it works great I have one on my filter, they're about $20...

I've had the same issues with rain here in Phoenix. Fortunatly we don't see much of it, but when it does rain it comes in buckets.

There's not going to be enough water to cause any engine problems and it's impossible to hydrolock the rotary to begin with. The issue is that enough water will get pulled into the intake via vaccum that the Mass Airflow sensor reads it as incoming air.

I've actually seen 360 grams/sec of MAF readout with water in my intake. It only happened above 5,000 or 6,000 RPMs. As long as you stayed in the lower power band you were ok. I found anything above those RPM's caused wheel spin anyway.

If anything, take your MAF out and clean it using electrical contact cleaner. Don't lose the gasket! It takes maybe 10 minutes to do.
