Advice on midpipe

I have a k&N intake, and a B&B exhaust, next i would like to get a midpipe, or high flow cat. Does anyone have any suggestions on what brand to go with as far as price vs value? What are some of the options out there? I was also wondering what a resenator does and if it is better to get a midpipe with or with out. Thank you for your help!

A few brands that I know of.

Hi-flow cats :

RP Performance
SR Motorsports
Canzoomer/Random Technology

Midpipe/straightpipe "

SR Motorsports
B&B

Resonator cuts down on noise/sound. I have it on my hi-flow cat unit as I did not want it to be real loud. If you get the hi-flow cat or you put a resonator on a straightpipe it will lose a bit of hp (for example a straight pipe might give you 8 hp vs. a hi-flow cat with resonator might only give you 4-5 hp. But it depends on how loud you want your car & how much you care about the environment.

What brand resonator did you have intalled? One of my next mods will likely be a high flow cat and I am trying to find out which is best and how loud it is? Also, with the resonator aren't you sort of "reversing" what you are trying to accomplish with the high flow cat? Meaning, you get the high flow cat for less restriction, however adding a resonator adds restriction?

Also, Fanman, do you have any video/audio clips of your car?

i've heard the RP pipe with HKS catback and it sounds really nice....i've also heard a b&b pipe with jic exhaust and it sounds goos as well...

how about a b&b midpipe with stock exhuast? does nay one have a sound clip of that? is there any problems running a mid pipe with a stock exhaust.

Resonator....

Midpipe with stock catback should be OK.

Adding a resonator is just a matter of how loud you want it, they are straight-thru design and add almost no restriction.

Without a cat you will get a check-engine light for the rest of your life, and pretty much void your engine warranty, otherwise - good to go! :D

I ordered my hi-flow cat with resonator through SR Motorsports. Good unit. Just have to mention that you want it with the resonator. I thought my RB cat back exhaust by itself was just about perfect in sound, so I didn't want it much louder. Stealth is right in that it does offer minimal restriction (hp loss) but it helps reduce the sound tremendously. Really depends on how loud you like your car. Personally I didn't want it too loud. Least restriction is the straight pipe, but it is also the loudest & like they said the CEL comes on.

I don't have any clips of my car. Too busy putting more stuff on. You can briefly hear my car on a video X-ped took when we were on our Malibu Cruz, but you hear my BOV moreso than anything else. Also the turbo quiets the exhaust down a bit (in the exhaust path).

The best I've heard is the K&N intake pared with the cheap but rev worthy RX-8 store straight mid-pipe, and out the perfectly tuned Racing Beat catback. Like a symphony to my ears.. Ha
