13b-re cosmo twin turbo vs 3 rotor 20b

im planning on buying a wrecked Rx8 from a friend it jus has some minor body damage and a blown engine. but thats not my problem; since it has a blown engine obviously its gonna get swapped but i really am stuck because i cant figure out which one would do me better here are my two options 13b-re cosmo twin turbo or 3 rotor 20b???

Any help will be appreciated

I'm also interested in this, but slightly different

13BREW vs 20BNA Bridgeport (or 3 rotor renesis NA setup if a kit is made soon)

which would have the better fuel ecconomy?

romycha1 07-30-2008 01:00 AM

If fuel economy is your worry, then you need to stick with a stock renny

bowser 07-30-2008 01:04 AM

fuel economy is not a major concern, as the car will be a daily driver and the cost of fuel then i'm interested to know which of the two motors would use more fuel

My JC Cosmo with factory fitted 20B-REW averages 18lt/100km. city cycle

Drops to around 12lt/10km. Highway cruising

On average, a JC Cosmo with the 13B-REW option gives 15lt/100km city + 11lt/100km Highway.

If you are interested in 13B-REW power (logical choice) then get the FD RX-7 version rather than the JC Cosmo version as the FD engine is better suited to a higher revving application.

The 13b-re is a fairly nice fit, thats what I have in mine. It will take some engineering either way, neither drop it. I wouldnt keep the twin turbos, go with a single instead. You should be able to get a solid 350-450hp depending on boost, as long as you have the fuel system to supply it.

We could always use more sexy 20b's around here :)

Rotore_787 07-30-2008 01:49 PM

fuel economy wont be a problem.

Im 17 and im studying mechanics in my school; an Rx8 with a 20b twin turbo seems to be a good idea since everyone will be doing honda civic's or crx's.

romycha1 07-30-2008 01:53 PM

17 huh, That's a lot of money to be invested in a swap for only being 17...

paulmasoner 07-30-2008 01:55 PM

theres no reason for twins except bling. and having that bling will cost you in: parts cost, complication, and eventually maintenance

not really i found a rx8 shell for $3200
a 20b with tranny in puerto rico is about $3600
and all the other things will round up to atleast $25k so 2 years of working and saving up got me up to $31675 i think that will be enough and correct me if im wrong

romycha1 07-30-2008 02:52 PM

Shoot, if you got it, then spend it. There are a couple 20b's floating around here, PM RGonza or angelJoelv

will do and thanks for not flaming me like all those ricers at mazda forum

636 07-30-2008 06:20 PM

Ricer like me? lol. I prefer the 20b but change out to a single turbo if you want more power. Stock twin turbos arent reliable when you up the boost. Let me know if you do this that would be great. I was saving money for this swap also ,but shit happened and i basically lost most of it. So i gave up. What type of program are you going through for mechanic school? Wonder if its the same as the ones here in california.

nah im talking about the group of ricers that claim to be running 490rhp on 14psi and a completely stock tranny (by stock i mean factory clutch and flywheel) and im in a vocational highschool but this will take me a while to get setup im still doin research since im going to have to use a different tranny and custom mounts.

Outkast187 07-30-2008 09:26 PM

Now that I see you are in Puerto Rico, the swap wont be an issue....its like a rotary mecca there.

636 07-31-2008 01:45 AM

I think you can use the stock tranny just reinforce it. Stock tranny should fit the 20b , if i remember correctly >_>. How much power are you aiming for? You would probably have to replace almost everything lol. I wouldn't spend 20k+ on a 20b swap unless i was aiming for high numbers , or else to me its not worth it. Oh yeah and i mean pump gas reliable power.

yea thats what angel said but he also said that 2nd gear was the problem and he's gone through a few transmissions. i'll be aiming for atleast 400-500rwhp and it won't hurt to do some work you if it i don't mind replacing almost the whole drivetrain. Also you wouldn't spend 20k+ on a 20b swap but like they said it all depends on prefence you know i haven't seen one kick ass rotary in philly yet.

oh yea sense just incase the rx8 tranny blows i did abit of research for a plan and i was wondering if i can use a getrag 233 tranny?

condolences
noun (always plural in this sense)

1. comfort, support, or sympathy offered to the family and friends of somebody who has died

Meaning I feel really sorry for you that you moved to Philly :)
