04' problems

I just bought my 04 RX-8 about a month ago and I put magnaflow exhaust and a secret weapon cold air intake. The intake supremely f*cked up my car and i had to switch it out before the mazda wrecker got there. I asked the mechanic and he said to never put a cold air intake on an RX-8 cuz it messes up the compression of the engine. Is the problem just that intake i bought? Can I buy a more expensive one and it will work fine or am I screwed all together?

Intakes provide minimal gains on this car anyway. But if you want one or don't have the OEM why not go with the one Mazda sells. Wonder what you expert mechanic would say about the Mazda CAI??? You should rename this thread to something like Intake Questions, your title implies something went wrong with your car when it is your mods causing the issue.

Yeah, the RX8s are notoriously easy to change the compression ratio. :Freak_ani You can do it by just putting on an intake.

Expo's right, the only type of intake that will do anything noticeable, besides make your wallet thinner, is the kind with the little spinny thing inside. And I dont mean the Turbonator.

plus the secret weapon intake is one of the worse intakes possible (for any car.) go with a better intake ie: racing beat, mazdaspeed, AEM.

if you want cold air..just get the Racing Beat cold air duct....keep your stock intake but drop in a K/N drop in filter....

Has anyone been hasseled by the dealer about the mods to the VFAD to accomodate a tight seal to the REVI duct when using the stock air box in conjunction with the duct. The aformentioned was what I was planning to do for an intake.

kwescott 03-30-2007 09:07 PM

how would they even know?

eforer 03-30-2007 09:20 PM

The RevI duct might tip them off, but they might not even notice.

yikes secret weapon. i swear theres like 3482948239 better intake choices.

Sweet, if I can change my compression with an intake, why kind do I need to get for around 9:1 compression?

:D

your mechanic is retarded.....compression can not be affected by intakes anything of the sort! The only problem you have is just picking which intake you want, such as AEM, REVi, MAZDASPEED. Or just stay stock, but i love the sound!!

weapon CAI is the kind of intake you buy on ebay!! stick with what you know which is the three i named above.........
