Back pressure could be pushing oil up through the intake. I had a clogged cat when this happened. On one engine it eventually lead to low compression.

That made me think of one more thing to check. Make sure both cooling fans are running. One will turn on then if the temp doesn't go down the other will start up.

Besides the waterpump, you could have a stuck thermostat. Or, the lower radiator hose could be collapsing. I suppose the radiator itself could be clogged.

Not true. I have a Mazdaspeed lightweight flywheel. I've been using it for 9 yrs with a OEM Mazda clutch & pressure plate.
While it is possible to resurface a flywheel, you can't do it to a clutch....
