Hello central fla members. I'm located in Lakeland florida which is located between orlando and tampa florida

I put a rebuilt engine in my rx8 2 weekends ago. The install went really well. However its not wanting to run.

It fired up on the initial startup and idled at 2-3 k rpm. I shut it off after the needle moved and added oil.

I started it back up and let it idle for 15 minutes until I saw steam underneath the coolant resavoir.

Worried I shut it back off and checked for leaks. I couldn't find any and noticed I spilled coolant on the radiator.

I realized it was just burning off and went for a restart.

No dice. I checked for fuel and its definitely getting it because I checked the plugs and they were soaked. I deflooded the car and checked for spark on each plug and each wire. I have spark

I also have a brand new ignition. OEM coils, ngk plugs, and ngk wires.

After we deflooded I attempted to restart and no luck. IT FLOODED AGAIN!!!!

I can't figure it out and I am out of ideas.

I will pay a member of 8 club to come diagnose it and possibly fix it if possible.

take a lower plug out and check to make sure you don't have coolant building up in the motor.

We took the plugs out and all it sprayed was fuel when we turned it over. I'm assuming your talking about spark plugs.

clean maf and ess sensor, then reset by doing 20 brake pedal stomp?

where did you get the motor? are you sure you were able to deflood completely and plugs were dry enough to start the car?

The motor I got from 04green. A member on here. It was owned by a kid and was rebuilt but we dont know anymore than that.

We sprayed all the fuel out of the ports and let the plugs dry overnight after hand drying them with a towel and lighter.

I thought I posted here, somehow I screwed up..

The motor started and ran for 15 or so minutes, twice I believe. He had a good install, a good start, a good restart and warm up, then it all went to hell.

That is what is so confusing. Unless you have a Noah class flood going on. But, dried plugs, crank until no gas out plug holes, squirt in a little oil, install plugs, verify plug wires and should start and run.

Bump pretty sure the engine is just really flooded. Still no takers that want to take a crack at it and get it going for a couple hundred?

Did you try pull starting it yet? Or is it an auto? Pull starting a MT will almost always start it...even if it is drowning in gas. Might want to disconnect the airpump connector though

Then you are going to have to do it the hard way.

Remove ess sensor plug or fuel pump fuse or relay. Remove plugs....crank until the fuel fog stops coming out....If you inject some atf or oil in thr plug holes....about a tablespoon each it will help...crank it over to spread out the oil. Insert new plugs and reinstall fuse or sensor that you removed. Crank it until it tries to start and keep on it...if you wimp out and let it die you will be back to square one.

Make sure you have the injectors hooked up correctly and the coil plug/wires in the correct position before you try. Anything weird and it wont start and will flood again

I've done everything that you have mentioned before without the oil/atf in the plug holes. However even then I havent had any luck. I allowed all fuel out of the plug holes and I have verified spark at each plug on each wire of each coil.

I have even cleaned the plugs even though they are brand new. I removed the fuel pump fuse and pushed out all of the fuel fog. All of the coils / wires / plugs / and injectors are correct as well.

I'm either reflooding it somehow or I never deflooded it completely. Its so frustrating. Idk how it flooded to begin with because she fired up and ran well for 15 minutes and was well at operating temperature.

I'll do the whole process again and inject some oil into each port.

How do I go about injecting it? Turkey baster?

Sure..or a syringe. You just may have no compression if the motor is an unknown. Do you get any pulses if you put your finger over th plug holes with one plug installed?

Thats the problem wirh an auto....they are way more difficult to deflood...and if anything is wrong at all they wont start. You could try the windshield washer injection trick as well....hook up the WW hose to each inspection port on the lower intake and give it a good squirt of fluid...that works sometimes really well

Well I have no way to check compression but with the plugs out it shoots out a **** load of air and sounds good on all faces and spins freely all in synch. If I could describe it , it sounds like an old school locomotive lol CHAAA CHAAAA CHAAA CHAAA CHAAA CHAAA lol

Maztech of tampa said he could deflood it, and compression test it for me for about $160

The tow bill to get it there is $135

Mazda wants just south of $400 for the same services smh

Join AAA, a must have with an 8, it will pay for itself the first tow and still have for the future. For $160 it seems a good deal for both a deflooding and a compression test for piece of mind.

Its funny you mention AAA because they send me packets all the time. Never even opened them. Yea for $160 I guess it can't be beat. I'm just short on time. I'm never off during the week till after his shop closes.
