VIR GRAND - EAST VIDEO POSTED! 4.2 Miles 32+ corners That place is The Bomb!

Y'all have to make this track soon! It's really awesome and MazdaDrivers.com did a fantastic job of hosting the event.

No racing = Event that runs like clock work 4 full 20 mins runs per day on a fantastic track.

It's about 6-hrs drive from Atlanta (Same as Rockingham / CMP but absolutely NO comparison track wise)

Another plus is that the levels of both cars and drivers is noticeably higher than what we're used to so there are some great learning opportunities.

Examples of cars on track:

Porsches GT3's and others
Brand new ZO6 Vettes and many Vettes of all types and descriptions
Everything BMW
Lotus Exiges, Elises
at least 10-15 RX-8's (Including a Koni Challenge car) I've never seen that many on track
Well prepared RX-7's
AMG Benzes
Mustangs :)

You get the picture, lots of high dollar stuff with great drivers at the helm.

I am almost sure I am going back Sept 1-2 for the Full course run which is a little shorter than the Grand-East but faster and more flowing (Grand-Am uses this configuration)

Good stuff! The track looks great. I think you need to figure out how to capture the sound of the car instead of the background music so it is easier to tell where you are getting on the gas etc.

it is a lot to learn... but it is a fantastic track. Lots of altitude changes in addition to the huge number of turns as well. It is an excellent track for the RX-8. The RX-8 will absolutely eat up a lot of the cars that are universally considered "better".

I HIGHLY recommend that any track addict go out for a weekend.

The R32 Club is doing an event there on Aug 30, 31 which is a Thurs/Fri. They need instructors... I don't know if I can go though. Work situation is still fluid.

I'm signed up for the full course event on Labor Day weekend. It's been a couple years since I've run the track, and I miss it. Ya'll come!

Ask and you shall receive, here's the same video with improvements on the titles and sans the rocking ZZ TOP soundtrack :

By the way OD, MazdaDrivers has it goin'on the weekend following the R32 club (Sept 1,2) so you could hang there for 4 consecutive days if you want to.

Just watched the video.

Just wanted to say that videos of the Grand east course really don't do the elevation changes justice, especially that left hander down the hill in the mid field.

Just curious as to why you cut out the climbing esses on your second lap in the video? Thats the best part of the track!

:dunno: I guess I cut it where I did that because I wanted to keep the video to 10-12 minutes while concentrating on the footage containing "interesting" stuff like being close to other cars / passing / getting passed as opposed to just lapping by my lonesome.

At 3+ minutes per lap you get to 10-12 minutes pretty fast..

Although you're right about the climbing esses, they sure are up there packing mondo pucker factor / excitement. The Climbing Esses and the fast sweeping turns 8-12 of the Pariot course are forever in my "most favored" track sections !

But now that you mention it, I could've cut it after the Oak tree or something like that.

The elevation thing is why I put the comment about the Benz's suspension on the top of the second rise, it litterally did feel like the car was just about to get airborne, you can see Paul's head (In my car) bobbing as we "fly" over the top:eek:

There's another good reason to go back, I just need more interesting VIR track footage... :yesnod:

Torque, don't know how I missed this thread. I didn't know you drove VIR. I think it would be a blast to get us all up there sometime. I suspect that next year may be my opportunity to go do domething like this as I will be getting an extra week vacation and something like this is what I'd love to do. That would be huge fun with the GA gang tracking VIR. Thanks for sharing.
