Tallahassee, FL area

hi all,

to any RX-8 owners, future RX-8 owners, or any other interested parties, the Tallahassee chapter of the SE-RX7 club invites you to attend our (rare) get-togethers. This invitation also extends to anybody passing through or visiting Tallahassee. There's really only a handful of 7's in the area but maybe your presence will stimulate attendance. I know there is one red RX-8 on the streets here and I've seen a silver one at the dealer.

We try to attend the great barbeque's held by both the Jacksonville & Gainesville folks. Also, we usually meet in late October for Hallowe'en.

Feel free to email me at: ES3Ashadow@aol.com
or view our mail list at: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/SE-RX7-Tallahassee/

I feel noticed. The Red Grand Touring RX-8 in Tallahassee is me.

I am dying here with the decision to send it back. I LOVE the car and have no problem with the HP issue, but the gas mileage KILLS me.

Anyway, just venting..... And fretting....

commentator 09-15-2003 07:19 PM

Fritz,

Sent you a pm there are not many 8s around here yet. Two that I know of Red and Black. I think local dealer has sold a couple more but do not know where they reside.

I do not know if I will be an 8 owner myself. One day I am going to return it next day I can't make the call.

Running out of time.

Later......

wow, for awhile there i didn't think i was going to get any responses...but you're right, there aren't but a few 8's on the streets...to date i think i've seen three.

hey you guys, please tell me what's up with the "returning your cars" decision...is it a recall, or are you having problems, or are you just plain dissatisfied? i'm just real curious...i've heard both good and bad.

i like to drive my 7 around on the weekends, mostly on the NE side of town but if you ever want to meet up, even for a few minutes, give me a call at 877-4557 or email me at ES3Ashadow@aol.com. (i'll bring my camera, hehe)

we don't have a web site, only the yahoo mail list at: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/groups/SE-RX7-Tallahassee

i know it's too late to get a caravan of cars for the Jax barbeque this Saturday..like the one we had for the Gainesville bbq..but i wasn't even sure if i was going...i may still go, probably alone...i heard there might be an 8 or two there.

i hope to meet you guys, and it was great to hear from you!!

Stealth,

how was the gas mileage of your Stealth's compared to what you're getting on the 8?

fritz

Stealth 09-16-2003 09:56 PM

In town, the Steath (6 cyl 3.0 DOHC) got 21 or 22 almost everytime no matter how I drove. On the interstate, I usually got between 24 and 26, sometimes better. I never, ever got worse that 20 mpg and never better than 28 mpg (except for story in next paragraph).

One time, in my Stealth, I made it my goal on a long trip to focus on getting the best mileage possible, taking every precaution to perform only the driving behaviors that result in great mileage (slightly over-inflate tires, accelerate like granny, drive 50 in 5th gear, no A/C, windows up). On that trip I got 30 miles per gallon - I went 600 miles on one tank of gas!! The Stealth has a rather large 20 gallon tank.

The RX-8 gets 14-15 mpg with normal driving in town (as low as 12 if "having fun" while driving) and my best on the interstate is about 18 (driving a constant 83 mph, no A/C). I just finished an interstate trip at a consistant 82 mph (no A/C) and it looks like I will almost get 19 mpg. I have never gone more that 230 miles on one tank.

Such a LOOOOONG way from the 18 city/24 interstate as advertised.

fritzfry 09-16-2003 10:34 PM

Ouch! that does hurt, even just hearing it.

Never too late Fritz.:D

fritzfry 10-02-2003 06:15 PM

Damian,

if you have "leftover" ski masks i guess that means you robbed some places yourself and got some money..which would mean you were able to get your car running???LOL

The color is "Nordic Green" - very hard to capture in the photos. At night it looks black, daytime cloudy skies looks dark green and when the sun shines on it the metallic lighter green color comes out. It grabbed me from the moment I saw it. They had about 25 RX8's on the lot, Gunther Mazda, Ft Lauderdale - all colors - black, blue, red, yellow, sunlight silver, and the darker grey color - only one in this color.

I live off Magnolia near the hospital.

I found the Yahoo group Holly moderates and joined that too. Will try to get together with y'all next time you meet at What-a-burger or whatever.

Hey Guys,

One of the 8's that you may have seen localy is one driven by my GF and myself (when she's kind enough to hand over the keys).

Lately we haven't had much time to get out of the house and when we have it's been on some pretty long road trips (which, by the way the 8 is magnificent at!)

We purchased the 8 at Gem Mazda here in Tally on the last day of september and have enjoyed every day of it.

We live closer to the FSU section of town, townhouse off of High Road. You can probably see her driving it everyday to and from work along tennessee/mahan and NE Cap Cir.

Just want to say to those of you guys that haven't already met me through my RX7 club appearances (yes, i admit, they are few and far between).

Ray

gingersrus 01-18-2004 08:06 PM

Hello Ray, I just got my Nordic Green 8 after Christmas, bought it down in Ft. Lauderdale. I have only seen 2 others in town (other than on the lot at Gem Mazda), and both of them were sunlight silver. One was going across town on Tennessee Street with Texas tags and the other one a couple of days ago on Thomasville Road. What color is yours?

Have you had yours in for service at Gem Mazda yet? I was wondering whether they had a mechanic who was any good with these new rotaries. A friend of mine had a Mazda pickup (piston) and said he really likes their service department.

fritzfry 01-18-2004 10:42 PM

Hey Ray,
have we met? like at halloween at whataburger a couple years back? you're friends with Brandon right?
is your 8 black? i saw one yesterday leaving governors square mall.

No worries. :) I've seen that model too. I used to live in Tally off Mission Rd when I went to FSU (96-97). Great town! I'm a Pensacola native myself.

Actually, I perform all of the service on the car. I like to think i know a thing or two about rotaries :-)

I used to work at Furrin Auto on West Tennessee street but now i work at Sun Tire on Capital Circle.

We have taken our car in to get a waranty item fixed (one of the climate control buttons was cracked by the guy they had detail the car before we picked it up). for a couple weeks we thought one of us had cracked it then we got a call from Gem Mazda stating that the part had come in for the waranty repair... no arguments here :-)

from what i understand they have some pretty well qualified rotary mechanics there, i just prefer doing my own work since i have the skills and tools to do it :-)

I would be more than happy to help take care of your car with you - i do reccomend using mazda parts though, i haven't been very impressed with the quality of parts that Sun Tire uses for general maintinence items.

Lets setup a get together sometime.

Ray
