Exclamation Pics of 2nd CENFLA RX CLUB Meet at Orlo Vista Park March 19 Pics

It was a great show of cars and we know that it will continue to grow even moreso.

What I dont understand is why you RX-8 owners that live in the Orlando area didnt come out to the meet to represent the 8's but yet you could drive 3 hours to Clearwater.

RX-8 's have a Rotary Motor also..

Enjoy the pics:

Its probably because you dont log onto this forum like a lot of other RX-8 owners. I used to think that this forum was really dead since i didnt see much activity. All you have to do is look at the post times and you will see how spread apart sporadic.

Just email Tony at : CENFLARXCLUB@yahoo.com

like this you will get an email for each event.

Or it could be that you only posted info on this meet 2 1/2 days before the actual meet.
The Clearwater meet was scheduled weeks and weeks in advance.

If you want people to show up to these gatherings you've got to let them know far enough in advance so they can accomodate it, not just on the spur of the moment.

he wants to start something in central florida. he regularly posts about his club in the middle of our event threads. that's okay, because we 8s love all rotary activities.

the flrx8club.net was created to help floridians meet other 8s in there areas. I agree that this se section is really big and sometimes hard to get to know others. we are having a meet the first weekend in april if you would like to get to know some of the members better.

swoope is right, we will be down at homestead this weekend. make sure you come out and meet us. we are looking forward to the event.

i would appreciate that the sarcasm and criticism of events cease, there is no need. our march meet had over 38 RX8s present which is fantastic. we had over 100 rotarys present and that was because we want to meet enthusiasts....this is what it is about....the enthusiast....nothing else....

^^^Yeah! Who cares about a name? Its all about planning and getting the word out. I see that Ethan made it out.

We have several members in S. Florida on the FL site. I suggested they start meeting Friday night at the Tower shops. Do you already have a group set up there? That sure would be cool, because its awfully hard to organize a weekly meet from way up here.

SOFLA RX CLUB,

Much luck to your endeavors and future developments. I'm sure you'll continue to grow and enjoy the companionship and comraderie of rotary enthusiasts all over the state. I'm sure the entire spectrum of the Mazda RX family will attend your events and you'll see more and more RX-8s as time goes on.

With that said, I'd like for you to do me (us) a favor. Go to your internet browser and type in "RX7 Club". Not Rotary Club or Mazda Club, but "RX7 Club." On Internet Explorer you'll receive more than ONE MILLION returns, with THOUSANDS of such clubs listed all over the United States. I'm not sure, but I'd be willing to bet that not a whole lot of RX-8 drivers contacted these clubs and asked them to remove the "7" from their name.

We love ALL rotaries...really, we do. But we reserve the same rights to declare our individualites and right to assemble as a dedicated group, the same as any other rotary club in America and abroad. I personally don't think that's asking too much. We will still gather together (ALL ROTARIES) make merry and worship the Wankel, but we will do it with the same diversity and unified differences as any other facet in American society.

Please allow us to be ourselves and refrain from any further critiques which will neither attract more rotaries to your events, nor promote the harmonic co-existence between our two camps. Thank you.

I googled 833,000 pages for "RX8 club." Not what we're talking about? Sorry...

Umm. First, The meet to Clearwater was only a 1.5 hour drive (and I came the farthest in ORL). Unless you are calculating the ride there to and from ORL. Second, we worked our asses off to publicize the meet, so that EVERYONE knew about it WAY in advance. Third, I never heard of this meet and I am sure most of my 8 friends didn't either. So my .02c is that we didn't know about this meet and had other plans.

*sigh*

1. Car clubs are about people. The cars are just an excuse to get together and rally around a common thread. But just because we all drive the same car or cars that share the same engine (humor me, I know the differences) doesn't mean that we are otherwise simpatico. Look at the dichotomy between the RX8Club and RX8Web vibe. I belong to both because I have friends in both. There are also people in both with whom I would not choose to spend time, but that's only natural among any group of people... families, companies, and clubs.

2. The RX-7 and RX-8 are different cars with different purposes and attract different buyers. Heck, the FD was so different from the FC that we (I had a relatively well-known FD and was on the Big List for a LONG time - check the thread on the RX7Club site) had trouble being accepted at first. This is even more evident now as the FD has become far more inexpensive to purchase over time. When I was first active in the Big List, the owners were almost all male (sorry Trixie and HollyWood), all 30 to 40, all engineers, and almost all road racing enthusiast (though even then there were some drag racers in the mix - wrong tool for the job if you ask me). Now I'd bet that the demographic tilts towards a far younger crowd who grew up with the Fast and the Furious as the model for proper car club mentality. I’m not sure I’d fit in as well anymore. The RX-8 club feels more like the RX-7 club did back then… and I relish the friends I have made here. Perhaps it is telling that almost all of my close friends from the RX-7 Big List days have moved on to other vehicles.

3. The RX-8 owes a lot to the FD and the current MX-5, as the FD did to the FB/FC and the original Miata. This heritage is important and unites us as enthusiasts of light, relatively low horsepower, but insanely fun cars. The distinction between the cars is less important than the commonality. I joined the BMW CCA for the same reason: we shared a strong desire to extract the most of our cars on the nation’s best racetracks and the BMW club put on a fantastic driver’s school and race program. My RX-7 and another buddy’s NSX were welcomed with open arms into the M3 fold… well, until we began to seriously eclipse their lap times, but that’s another story.

4. I was a founding member of the RX-7 Club of Florida. When it morphed into the Mazda Rotary Car Club of Florida, it all went to hell, so I left. It used to be huge, now it’s dead. I believe in small, independent, money-free, closely knit clubs that sometimes gather together for bigger events. The Florida RX-8 Club (which has RX-8s, Miatas, even a Subaru) is successful because the people care about each other, despite some expected disagreements. We meet on a regular basis and keep it to ourselves. We opened up our March event to other rotary-centric clubs and welcomed all with sincerely open arms. Just about every rotary example was present save the Cosmo, with a few Miatas thrown in for good measure. Everyone seemed to have fun and the police hired for security went out of their way to comment to me how well everyone was getting along. We look forward to a fantastic event at Homestead as a guest, rather than the hosting, club this time. I will thank those that worked to put this event together with as much enthusiasm and sincerity as I thanked those that worked their butts off to put together our March meet… and that included people outside the club. Preacher, I hope you will allow me to buy you a pint of Guinness, if you imbibe and if we can find a decent pour. Alex, I look forward to seeing you again and hope you can join us.

5. Preacher, your bold font looks like anger and, when combined with the tone of your emails, appears to be very challenging and accusatory. I mention this in case this is not your intent. It may explain some of the reaction you are getting. I wrote that the Florida RX-8 Club is successful because the people care about each other. Mantis and raymull are exhibiting, strongly, their protective nature of our club and our members. While they have expressed themselves more passionately than I would have, I agree with and support them completely. I hope you have that kind of loyalty within your group. However, I think we all need to remember that internal loyalty does not require external aggression (especially when there are fat, pudgy V8s out there to hate… I kid, I’m a kidder).

6. Here’s to rekindling old friendships and making new ones at Homestead. Let’s continue that club-to-club support through the rest of the year while still respecting our differences… after all, what’s in a name? A rose by any other…
