L Flash Friendly Dealers

Since it seems that some dealers are being coy about the L flash issue, I think it might help others if you know of a dealer that will flash your PCM with little or no BSing required.

I particularly need one in the Orlando/Tampa Bay area. Fairbanks told me there was nothing they could do about my mis fires on idle.

I am going to call Rosenthal this week to see if I can get them to do the L flash on mine. Hopefully they will be amenable to it. If the L flash is as good as it's been reported to be I don't understand why Mazda would give people such a hard time about it after having "oversold" the power and people complaining about bad gas mileage?

I just don't get why the dealerships are choosing to be this way... They know the reflash is available, and as far as I know, there is no condition required to get the flash other than you asking for it. After the initial wave of reflashes, did MNAO decide they weren't going to give in so easily or something? In your case, are they denying any knowledge of the reflash, or are they saying that they just won't do it for you? I'm assuming it's the former.

I don't know what to tell you as far as the C. FL area, as I got mine reflashed at my home dealership in miami. My advice to you is the same I've given to the others though... Just find as much evidence of the L PCM upgrade on these boards as you can. Print out the TSBs that refer to it, cite the members that have received the flash, and even tell them you know the P/N of the reflash.

The thing you want them to admit is that the L calibration exists. Once you've gotten them to that point, you've pretty much won. I just don't see why they would deny you the upgrade at that point.

BTW, do you qualify for the free service, or did you purchase the car after that? Perhaps that has something to do with it? I don't know...hope this helps.

theyre denying it all together. the head service tech seemed to know alot about rotaries, but when I asked specifically about an ECU reflash, he said he didn't know anything about it. I don't have free service, but they're claiming to not even know about it.

Five Star Mazda service in Macon, GA was trying to be coy until I told them to read the instructions regarding "Mode 9 Calibration Level "L" in TSB 01-011/04. He said it would be no problem to take care of that when they perform my recall work tomorrow. "Should only take 2 hours to do everything".

Hope this helps, and I will let you all know how the appt went tomorrow evening.

Yeah, well they know about it, alright. Print out that TSB link in my previous post, among the other things I mentioned. Bring these over to your dealer, and you'll notice that their temporary amnesia will be gone :)

Hey guys... i dunno how good a location this is for u, but down in pompano beach, i had absolutely no trouble at all with the flash. i said to them that i had been getting poor mileage, and i heard a reflash for the ECU was out. Even gave em the P/N number that was posted somewhere here, and they found it, flashed it, n thats all. though i wasnt the first that i know of who got the flash. Genom was, as far as i know, at this dealership. Eddie Accardi, between Commercial and Atlantic (actually Cypress and Atlantic) on Federal Highway, the West side of the road. cant miss it. south side of the big bridge. if anyone lives around there, u should be able to get it done there. gluck

I had no problem at City Place Mazda in WPB. The techs working on my car have been working on my rotarys for the past 20 years. They know the rotary, particularly Greg, and Earnesto (Earny). They did the reflash and the recalls in 1 hour. If you are looking to buy another 8, I counted 34 on the lot.

My appt went fine. They did the two recalls, the "L" reflash, and ordered me new door sills since they could not fix the ones that are lifting to my satisfaction. They are going to install them next week.

Going to have to continue to feel the waters here as they just replaced their service manager within the last month or so.

Good luck. I'll post my impressions of the reflash on one of those threads, but overall it definitely runs smoother, not that I thought it was possible before.
