my tickets just arrived in the mail, woohoo!
|
woohoo, me too!
Saturday will be a half day for me as I have to attend my son's wedding rehearsal and dinner since I'm footing the bill! |
Look forward to meeting all of you!
For those of you who haven't bought your tickets yet, you can still save money if you order them by tomorrow the 14th. |
Just ordered my 3 day pass. I'll prob go Friday to enjoy some track touring.
|
I found out there is supposed to be some things us ROTORHEADS don't want to miss at the Mitty...
1. The RX-7 GTO #1 car is going to race this year. 2. The 792P will probably make a couple of laps around the track. I have seen, heard, and touched both of these cars at work, but I have not witnessed them in action on the track. I don't want to miss this!! So get your tickets by the 14th and come out and park in the corral. Holly |
Oh yea! The 792P is sweet. For those of you that have not seen my vid of it firing up during the GA RX-8 Club visit to Downing/Atlanta Inc. TURN THE VOLUMN UP!

I'm hoping the RX-7 guys can out number you guys. I know it's a pipe dream but we'll still try :) I'll have to let some friends drive my other 2 7's to pad the ranks.

We've got 11 RX-7s comin. How many 8s?
|
Looks like about 8 on our list here. I'm really surprised we don't have more showing up.

I'm coming down too! I'll leave St Louis Friday morning, should roll into Atlanta area around 7pm. I think Jeremy and some of the other local RX-7 guys are going to organize a Friday night meet for drinks and food, I'll have him post details here too. I assume we'll do a Saturday night get-together as well.
|
I will be taking off around 2:00PM for Father duties and do not expect to be back until Sunday. BOOSTD 7, will you be there on Sunday?
|
Yep, I'll probably leave Sunday afternoon before 4
|
I'm sure I speak for all of us in the Georgia gang when I say I'm looking forward to meeting you. I also hope to discuss a few of your photo shooting techniques if you have a spare moment.
|
Thanks, but probably not all ... for some reason there are a few local guys in Atlanta that just think I'm the devil. I love talking cameras though, it would be my pleasure to share some of what I've learned.
As you all may or may not know, I am a Meteorologist. And not the dopey TV kind, I have a 4 year Atmospheric Science degree. Anyway, it's looking like we're going to NEED that EZ Up tent. Does anybody have one? Friday the weather will be perfect, and Saturday will start out nice, with chances of rain increasing throughout the day. Right now it looks like it won't rain until 6pm or later Saturday. But then Sunday could be quite wet - probably rain in the morning, and not drying out until noon or afterward. So if we don't have a tent, it would be a VERY good idea to rent one for the weekend. Since I'll be driving down in the Tribute, I could pick it up and bring it to the track if somebody local finds a place to get it. I don't take pictures in the rain, so I'd be huddling under it with everyone else ... hopefully drinking beers and BBQ'ing! I'll come back with daily updates, since honestly right now it's too far out for any certainty. |
Well.... My easy up got distroyed during a storm a couple weeks ago. We are minus cover at this point. don't know about the 7 guys. We have not discussed purchasing one. I'll see what we can shake out. Since we do not collect dues, this is something that we would have to collect contributions for and that is always a touchy subject. It was easier for me to just purchase one myself and use when we needed it. A trip to a local Walmart can take care of it. Gainesville WM is about 15 miles away from the track. I'd purchase one myself but the wife would kick my ass! We have an understanding... I don't waste money and she tells me what is wasteful! LOL
I'll pick one up if the group is interested and will split the cost. That will give us a place to put our new banner up. Cost approx. $100 |
Since I don't have to pay to get in, I'll pitch in my $25 for a tent. The RX Tuner banner gets to hang there too though :)
|
OK, but we get a photo in RXTuner Magazine with the Georgia Gang! :D:
OK, guys... anyone care to contribute? $25 BOOSTD 7 $10 SilverEIGHT |
Can we make this a sticky?
|
Making it a sticky won't get more attention ... since it's at the top already, and only 2 days away.
As long as theres a decent turnout, of course I'll put a pic in the magazine. I'll have a box of mags to give away too. |
silver, contact TA, I know we have some money left in the club funds, after our last little fundraiser for the banner. I know I recontributed to it, as did a few others. Between that, and any extra contributions, I am sure we can get the tent paid for. Since it seems that we might be needing it.
EDIT: I dont know about anyone else, but I am planning on getting there around 9 a.m. both days. What about the rest of you folks? |
I'm shooting for around 8 AM.
|
I believe we have $45 right now. I'll take a peek in the official club envelope tonight
|
OK, the EZ-Up has been purchased. 10'x10' on sale for $88.12 + tax = $93.40. I will bring it on Saturday morning.
As of right now, we have 45.00 GA RX8Club kitty 25.00 BOOSTD 7 10.00 SilverEIGHT 80.00 TOTAL $13.40 Balance If more money is collected than needed for the EZ Up, we will just put it in back into the Club kitty. L8, don't forget to bring the banner. |
It's official. We have $45 left over from the banner.

My car is spotless and under the cover in the garage and I'll see you guys on Sunday. I have got to stay at the shop on Saturday to make up for the last 2 weekends spent fing off out of town. I know Saturday is gonna be the better day up there due to weather but the benefit of staying at the shop on Saturday is having a ringside seat for the BLUE ANGELS!!! They started flying in today and it just never gets old seeing them fly over.
On another note, Project Snowball is back from Mandeville Auto Tech and the cage is nothing short of outstanding. The car leaves for the paint shop this weekend and then it's back for re-assembly. The convertible is running and will be the focus for the weekend as the custom diff will be in on Friday. The 3rd gen is finished and dynoed (313rwhp/329rwtq) and is really cool. Have I mentioned how much I love my work? Chas |
Charlie, I think you need to invite us over for an open house sometime and open up these beast for us to drool over. Look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
|
Said this on rx7club yesterday, but weather outlook is looking up! The models have the weekend storm trending toward slowing down - translation, no rain until Sunday afternoon. And it looks like no thunderstorms, just showers.
|
BOOSTD, I'm sending you a PM shortly.
|
Starkey is coming on Sunday.
|
|
TA and Francois are already going out there today, makes me jealous.
So do we still have the same group going, have not heard from Pam or AC8 in a while, y'all still coming out tomorrow. I can't wait to go run around in the mini's and the lotus. Gotta remember to bring the camera. |
Just got back home. Traffic was a biatch. I left the track at 3. Anyway, tomorrow looks to be great. Although I didn't see the RX792P run, the Dennis Spencer GT class RX8 ran in qualifying. This is the carbon fiber bodied 3 rotor car built by Roger Mandeville for this years 24 hours of Daytona. I am not sure how that qualifies as a vintage car. Maybe since the 24 hours is already over, it is a historic car right? Anyway it sounded awesome. I hope to walk the paddock tomorrow. Today was just an excuse to go track touring. Francois and I were at the back of the track tourers and got to make a few spirited runs through some key turns like the esses into 5, turn 7, and turn 10a/b. It was at a much slower pace then a HPDE but fun regardless for $35. See y'all Sat.
|
Awesome! Can't wait. I will have the good digital video with me tomorrow and will record some of the great sounds. I'm too excited. Gotta go wash the wheels for tomorrow.
|
See you guys there. I'm bringing my white 8. I'll be easy to recognize. My tag is Georgia RX8.

I shot video of the all Mazda race. Hope it turns out OK. The wind was blowing real hard which makes for a lot of irritating noise. I will try to post some of the footage soon. Also there was a F-1 car that was awesome. I had a problem shooting it because it was too damn fast! Track Touring was slow and fast. Had the opportunity to take most all the turns at 3/4 speed but it was an immediate brake to keep from plowing into the train. |
I have video of the Mazda race uploading right now. I will make links later this evening when I get back from a wedding rehearsal.
|
If you like the sound of the rotary engine... you are gonna love this! What a sweet opportunity to see so many high performance machines on the track at one time... together! I feel privileged.

It was great hanging out with L8APEX, Pam, SilverEight, TorqueAholic, Ivan, Starkey, and Marietta8 at various points during the weekend. I managed to attend all 3 days of festivities track ho style. I also manged to do track touring all 3 days. The sessions were about 25 minutes long and if you hung back, you could run through a few strategic corners at a pretty decent clip, but not quite full tilt boogie. I was typically 1 gear down from what I would be on a track day (using 2nd gear instead of 3rd). It was still a blast and a good way to keep me satisfied until Roebling in 3 weeks. The Mini Cooper autocross was OK and the Lotus Elises were great. I wish I could have had more time in the Elise. No cones were hurt in my drive.
Looking forward to next year! |
Nice pics TA. Track touring was more like Track day with traffic jams. What a blast. I actually hit 97 coming out of turn 12. The guy riding with was grabbing the oh shit bar and putting on the air brakes and that stupid gray Corvette kept getting in my way on turns. TA can tell you about him. It was great seeing the group again and hanging out. I took off to take photos and you guys were gone when I got back so I went to drive the Elise again. (A silent moment for 6 cones after the first big sweep.) That car is fun to drive. Met a few of the RX-7 group and enjoyed the conversation as well as Paul from Mazmart and Boosted 7.
The Mitty is definitely on my list for 2007. What a hoot! It's not just a spectator event guys, There is plenty to do. I have to admit something though, I was a bad boy. After getting out of the Elise, I made a mad dash for the skid pad with my DSC turned off and got sideways for a one lapper. Too much fun. |
