Its a mile from my house. Howerver, I'll be in Austin, TX then.

jwitzer 04-06-2005 07:40 PM

Nabil,

Look for a Titanium Grey with a Mazdaspeed wing...

See you there.

AC8 04-06-2005 08:10 PM

I'm in

Look forward to seeing you all there

SilverEIGHT 04-06-2005 09:33 PM

I'm in.

SilverEIGHT 04-07-2005 07:20 AM

Nabil, I love that spot. Especially in the evening when the breaks glow entering 10A. What time are you going to be there on Saturday? Let's try to park as a group. Does this event get as crowded as the Petit LeMans?

SilverEIGHT 04-07-2005 12:37 PM

Auwwwwww Yeaaaaaa!

Pretty Damn Early. Since I can only go on Sat I want to see it all. Plus, want to hang out with Luis and check out his Formula Mazda ride. I'll let you know what time exactly. Don - are you going on Friday too?

SilverEIGHT 04-07-2005 01:28 PM

My attendance depends mostly on you. However I don't think I can break from work to get there on Friday. Since I work in Lawrenceville, I'm only 15+ min. from the track so I could stop by on my way home if anything is going on. You got something in mind? Do they run after 5:30?

I was thinking maybe we could go rope of an area and stake a claim Friday. I could even leave my Toyota pickup there over night and move it in the morning if you would take me home on Friday and pick me up on Saturday.

My good buddy always brings his canopy. He will prob go Friday and thus have a spot saved. I don't rememeber the crowds to be as large as the Petit LeMans.

SilverEIGHT 04-07-2005 02:55 PM

OK, Great! What do I look for. Will he have an 8 parked there? Will you be there Friday and what time Saturday?

I live two miles from the Frindship Road exit off 985. If you want to come up 985 instead of 85, we could meet at the Waffel House in Oakwood or even the one on Friendship Rd. might be less crowded. This goes for anybody wanting to meet up and drive in.

wht05rx8, I know you will be driving up from Atlanta.
jwitzer, are you driving straight up from Tampa.

jwitzer 04-07-2005 09:29 PM

I'm driving up Thursday night after work, stopping for sleep on the way.

I figure I'll be at the track Friday by noon and I plan on attending Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Are we agreed on meeting on the grassy knoll at 10A? Is that inside or outside the track? I'm assuming inside - cross the bridge then turn right.

Waffle House for the Saturday morning meet-up, correct?

SilverEIGHT 04-08-2005 05:11 AM

I believe Nabil is refering to outside the track. Don't cross the bridge. Go straight and past the underpass road. When the road turns sharp right the grassy knoll is on your left. This is at the end of the back straight.

Gee, that paint scheme looks familiar...

I like the cues to the past. :)

For those that don't know, that paint scheme (with different colors) was made famous by the 1991 Le Mans winning Mazda 787B. However, it first appeared in 1989 on a 767 and a 767B.

I want to make all the events on Saturday so I will be at the track at 8am (or 9am at the latest). Our own Luis Schiavo has qualifying at 8am and his race is at 12:40pm. I also am dying to see the debut of the rotary powered LMP2 car. It is running the number #8!

Hey Nabil,

I will be working there this weekend (corner marshall). I don't know where I'll be working, but I'll look for you on one of my breaks. It's the best way to see the action up close.

Splan8 04-15-2005 09:31 AM

I am planning to come out as well now and will look for you guys.

derwankel 04-15-2005 09:49 AM

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday ... would like to meet some of you guys there if possible.

Some of us RX-7 owners will be there on Sunday. Let us know if we can meet up with you guys somewhere. A couple of the 7 guys from Alabama my be over to report about the sportsbook.com car for the RXTuner. We may go in to Roswell afterward for some Sushi. If someone wants to PM me their phone number we can try to hook up with the 8 owners.

OK, I posted a some images on derwankel's thread but stay tuned because I will be putting the whole package up soon on my website.

derwankel 04-17-2005 04:24 PM

Great shots SilverEight! I added some more from today and a few videos I was able to snag... enjoy!

Had a great time ... saw a few 8s there, but did not get to meet anybody. Maybe next time.

SilverEIGHT 04-17-2005 08:12 PM

derwankel, what color is your 8?

The only real color for an RX-8 ... Velocity Red :)

SilverEIGHT 04-17-2005 09:13 PM

Don't recall seeing a Red 8 today. I think I saw every color but Green and Gray. Sorry I missed ya.

Did you park your car near a blue RX-8 today in the paddock? I was working at turn 1 and saw a photographer get into a silver one parked next to me.

Yep! That was me. I walked outside the track from there up as far as I could go to turn 6.

I'm sorry I didn't get to talk with you. I hope you got some great pictures. I didn't get many of them myself, because we're not allowed to take pictures during a race.

It was fun Friday night there. I hung out with the Mazda prototype crew, and asked a lot of questions about the car. As I was leaving, the President of Mazda NA was walking in. It's great to see the Mazda factory put some support behind this new team!

SilverEIGHT 04-18-2005 10:03 PM

Where were you stationed, inside or outside turn one. I made a point to speak to all corner worksers I passed. Turn one on the outside, three workers sitting in the shade relaxing between races, I think my remark was something like, "What are y'all doing sitting down on the job?"

I parked there hoping to meet up with who ever was driving the blue RX. Plus it was about as close as I could get to turn 1 and most of all... it was right next to the port-a-potty!

Kurt Bob 04-18-2005 10:13 PM

I was inside (at the flag station). The only way you could get close to me would be to get near the fence in the Pro Pits. Jim Downing came to visit there, and Nabil came to visit for a few minutes on Saturday. I met up with a couple RX-7 folks on my lunch break - Holly and her friend.

Kurt Bob, it was good to meet you. Hope to see you in Atlanta again, having fun with your car. I would have liked to met more of you 8 owners.

I'm so glad to see Mazda involved in racing again. Great race for the sportsbook.com 3-rotor (or as the annoucer said .. "triple rotor"). Got the finish and 2nd in class 1st time out. woohoo

Look for the article and pics of the coverage of the race by Phil (herblenny on the forum) in the RXTuner, in the next few months.

Holly

P.S. Witzer .. were you there?

It was good to meet you too. It definitely was a beautiful weekend, and a successful one for the Mazda team. I think I mentioned to you that I have a Miata also. And it's always so exciting to see so many Miatas, RX-7's, Protege's, Mazda6's Mazda 3's and Formula Mazdas racing every weekend all over the country. I think there were about 40 FM's racing on Saturday. It's a great time to be a Mazda owner!

jwitzer 04-24-2005 06:23 PM

Yes, I was there. Exactly where we said we'd meet up, but no one else showed up (...though an unrelated yellow RX-8 was there).

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Up the hill, left over the bridge, then on the right behind the Porsche, Panoz, and Superformance parking areas. Parked under the trees on the hill down toward the tunnel.

Of course, I did wander a bit, but I spent 75% of my time on the hill watching turns 10A and 10B.

After that, I went up to Murphy, NC to spend a week in the cabin and stumbled on Deals Gap and rode the Dragon.

Now I'm back down in Tampa.

Holly, I didn't get your private message until just now. Sorry.

ROTORX7Holly 04-26-2005 11:29 PM

Sorry I missed you Jeff. I was there on Sunday and sat in that area for a good part of the race with another RX-7 guy. I didn't see the likes of you there :)

Just remember the next time you get up this way, that I'm up here. You can stop at the Downing/Atlanta shop and get the tour next time.

How about Petit LeMans?

Take care,
Holly
