Good performance shop in Tampa??

I am looking to find a good shop that can install springs and exhaust on my 6 here in Tampa...anyone know of one?

I can use someone's garage/tools too... kinda getting jittery having these parts and no way to put them on.

Thats funny because their website doesn't seem to show as much focus on rotary as much as miata. I'm glad to hear it - interesting that I used to live down the road from them but never knew they existed. I may head over tomorrow...

I talked to someone from there via email... they quoted me 4 hours to do springs. Seems kind of high considering people on mazda6tech have stated they have done fronts in 45mins/each and rears in a mear 10 mins/each. I hope it was just a very high quote (rough estimate based on not knowing a mazda6) and would only charge for the time it took to do.

Next thing is... they are only open mon-fri till 5pm. that really puts a monkey wrench, or lack of, on my car.

cyber, I spoke with Ferman in Tampa about install of MSpeed parts and their labor rate is $80/hr. I suppose this would only apply if you are wanting to not void your warranty.... Ferman is the only local dealer for MSpeed parts which can be installed by any Mazda dealer. I like Russell Mazda in Clearwater because they are small and the labor rate is $78. Ferman informed me that they will not match any MSpeed prices that Rosenthall (website) quotes for MSpeed becuase they can't compete. Any Mazda can install the parts they just are not certified to purchase them. If a Mazda certified tech installs any MSpeed parts (maybe Mazzsport is certified) it doesnt void your warranty.

The suspension really has me interested. Why hasnt anyone introduced suspension that will drop the car lower than 20mm. Also, the Mazdaspeed suspension package doesnt have adjustable struts. Does anyone have them and are they so stiff that it is really isn't a great idea for street driving. I am really interested in the MSpeed suspension because it won't void the warranty and no one else seems to have a better substitute. My husband has a Miata and he put the sports springs on the factory struts and you can feel every bump. I have been considering doing that myself since the MSpeed are not adjustable even though they are a good price. Who would you be purchasing them from? Why void your warranty if the aftermarket packages are not much better than Mazdaspeed. There are reviews of the RX-8 performance parts on the Racing Beat website.

Also, If you want to buy any regular parts from Rosenthall that are not Mazdaspeed, the parts guy at Russell will try to beat or match Rosenthall's prices. The advantage is that you wont have to pay for shipping if Russell Mazda orders it for you. Ferman won't do that. My husband has told me that the install of the suspension isn't that difficult it just requires a spring crusher tool (dont know the tech name). Maybe this would be an opportunity for a tech session. You may be able to rent the tool.

First off, dont think that adding an aftermarket part will just void your warranty. It wont. If a part fails DUE TO the installation or malfunction of an aftermarket part, then yes it will. The dealer must prove that the aftermarket part caused the problem.

IE: if you install springs, and the struts fail, you wont be able to get the work done for free. but if you install springs and your engine fails, then you can get that fixed under warranty with no problems. If you run into a problem with warranty work, you have many options. One would be to take your business elsewhere while another would be printing out a copy of http://www.sema.org/Main/SemaOrgHome.aspx?ID=50100 and handing it to them with a smile. remember, sugar > spice

Simply a spring compressor. I've actually seen them for sale at Sears, only $40. If you were ever to use it more than once, you'd get your money's worth. That and you can loan it out to friends.

adding to what cyber drone said. if the aftermarket fails, usually they have their own warranty that would cover it. so long as it was installed properly. i had a rebuild tranny put in my 95 probe and the shop told me they would not cover the tranny. no problem. the parts store i got it from had its own warranty. of course neither company covers the blown engine do to theft. a sad day that was.
