This big recall sucks

I called Jim Ellis of Marrietta today to see if I could get the Spark Plug and Battery TSB done, but the service guy on the phone said if I bring my car in, they arent going to give it back. So until I get my recall letter for the Heat Shield/Gas Tank crap, I guess I have to avoid the dealer for any service issues. Anyone get a better idea?

Same dealer, different stories. I wish dealers were more consistent in their service "advising".

Jim Ellis told me they werent even going to do my recall unless I had letter in hand. They are doing cars in their inventory first (Imagine that). I called Mazda of Roswell and they said they would do it without the letter but would have to order the shield for my car. Today they called, part was in and wanted me to bring my car in. And I was, too. Until they told me my car would be their first:eek:not a guineau pig). Nope. I'll wait. Besides its not like I drive the car in the manner which causes the damage anyway. Not worried.

I dont think they can take your car hostage.

djseto 08-06-2005 12:13 AM

They said they wont do the recall, but they will keep the car because its a "liability". So I told him, "but its OK for me to drive it around and take a 'risk' ". He said, if you know there is a recall, then you should bring the car to us for a loaner. Like hell, as long as I make payments, I am not driving a loaner. I will call Mazda of Roswell if they are going to it without the letter. I dont mind being a guineau pig since all they have to do is follow some instructions. Didnt they have to inspect your car first to see if they need to replace the fuel tank etc? I am driving my car to Massachusetts in 3 weeks, so I would rather get it done and flashed before the big hual.

valpac 08-06-2005 09:27 AM

Do you really think you have damage? I had Charlie look at my body grommets for signs of deformation. None. So my tank is probably fine, too. I wouldnt worry about a long road trip w/o the recall done. At highway speeds (cooler running) you are least likely to have thermal damage than city driving. And damage in the city will only really happen if you are revving up at a light to drag.

Obviously, your call.

legokcen 08-06-2005 02:39 PM

I can't think that I have much damage either, but I'll take the car in next week after I call my dealer. Hopefully they'll put on the R flash too.

olddragger 08-07-2005 07:24 PM

Yea I think those of us who put on cat backs actually helped this issue. I see no damage at all on mine and My suspension arms are the D series so I lucked out there also!

OD,
Where did you find out your arms are the 'D' series -- how could you tell?

legokcen 08-07-2005 08:09 PM

Just a side note. After looking at the previous 3 posts, pretty soon, I think we're all going to have avatars from Track Day or HPDE sessions. :)

Morgan 08-07-2005 09:46 PM

maybe i should call my dealer too...idk enough about the recall, but i'm guessing i ought to find out..plus i want the R flash.

You WANT the R flash? Have you read the service bulletin? It appears the R flash does nothing more than cut idle when engine is hot and operating for extended time at higher idle speeds. I can't see how this is much better the P and it seems worse as the flash is taking over idle control.

I guess want I'm getting at is not all flashes are "good" just because they are the next rev.

Morgan 08-08-2005 12:56 PM

i think the latest one i have is the N flash...idk...i'm happy with it..you can def. feel a difference...i'm hopeing i won't have to get any other ones. lol

valpac, the car's ECU already have a programmed "idle cutoff" albeit at a higher RPM than what the R flash will do, so the flash is not "taking over idle control" as you said because it already does.

valpac 08-08-2005 03:28 PM

ok, tightening the CONTROL it already has..

EDIT: post #600

Spyder_doo 08-09-2005 01:51 PM

I just got my turbo'd 8 from the dealer with the heat shields installed and the 'R' flash. I dont know of many other turbos that have done this and my car seems to be running better but I'm not wanting to jinx it or anything so I'll give everyone my thoughts on it after a while of driving it. I have the 'M' on it before that so this is a big jump in flashes for me. Everyone plz pray that this doesnt make my car start running like crap or something. I had a CEL come on after driving it for about 5 mins but it went off and I havent seen another one yet.

Jamie

Spyder_doo 08-09-2005 07:39 PM

Ok everyone I need help. My car is throwing a CEL constantly now. It didnt do it before I got the service done and now it's always on. Please help me. Can anyone backdate my flash?

Jamie

Marietta 8 08-09-2005 08:04 PM

Hey Jamie,
backdating can be done but it is not easy and you would be hard pressed to get a dealer to do it for you not because of the turbo but because of what is involved with the wds.
Is it solid on or flashing?

Spyder_doo 08-09-2005 10:39 PM

It's a solid CEL. I dont know what could be causing it. Everything looks like it's the same as when I took it in, but it is running a little wierd now. It wont stay idle everyone and then, plus when it does it idles at about 250. I was thinking that you might be able to do it but I wasnt sure. If I bring it to Mazcare would you be able to look at it and help me try to get it running right? I dont like my dealer, I didnt really want them touching my car but this recall thing started getting me worried so I wanted the heat shields but not the flash but they wouldnt let me not get it.

i called cory fairbanks down here in orlando and told them i wanted to bring the car in for the recal, to check to make sure i have the current flash, and fix my center consol lid. they said no problem, going in this sat.

most of the heat sheild/gas tank recall is just an inspection, they said as long as there is nothing that needs to be replaced they would have the car back to me later the same day. If anything did need to be replaced I could get a loaner car or take the car home and bring it back when the parts are in.

this really suprised me as the dealer usualy sucks at customer service.

Spyder_doo 09-01-2005 02:27 PM

Well just for an update: my car is running more smoother and there's less heat issues thanks to the layers of materials around all the exhaust, they even put an extra one in around the area that the turbo is in. I was having really bad problems there for a while but now I've came to the conclusion that it wasnt so much the flash as it was the CAT that I had put on my car to run the turbo. I'm once again catless and loving the sound once again. For the ones of yall that heard it before I got the turbo, it's nowhere near that loud now. I really like the overall sound it has. Plus the flames it shot every now and then are on demand now. I think it's from running dog rich with the emanage but I hope to tune that out asap.

Jamie

cgrx 09-01-2005 02:33 PM

called my dealer just now. Bringing it in ASAP and get the MAZDASPEED Miata as a loaner. SWEET

I have no letter

ltorres23 09-01-2005 03:59 PM

Mine was done in about 2 hours. But because I got a Cadillac as a loaner (Enterprise took so looonnnggg to give me a car, I got the upgrade :D ) , I picked up my rx-8 next day morning. They got me a loaner, so I could go to work... @ Cory Fairbanks...until now they have treating me very well, hopefully stays this way...

cgrx 09-01-2005 04:03 PM

damn, only two hours. I was hoping for longer. Maybe I can drag it out

Spyder_doo 09-02-2005 10:03 AM

Mine didnt take anytime at all. couple hours at most.
