I think someone should coordinate a Rally Race for the next meet. Lets drive our cars and have fun then stand around a look at them.

Thats not how we operate....you don't have to ask permission....especially for local gatherings. For larger events we (MRCCFL) usually just suggest a date in advance to make sure it doesn't conflict and also to start making preparations.

BlueGrimRX8 04-27-2004 05:39 PM

Sorry I was away from the boards for a few days since I was out of town with the meet and such. So now I have a few comments....

The comment was not ignored on purpose, but this thread was a thread towards the organization of the RX-8 club, so keeping it on topic was important.
With that said let me point out a couple things regarding the MRCCFL:
Membership dues: This was not a thread to ask people to become a member of a seperate club or have to worry about a membership due to a club, this was a thread and an idea regarding the organization of this club (Officers or perhaps as suggested an organizational committee) and the extra money that was left over from the HUGE meet that we put together. I for one am not interested in paying dues to a club because that defeats the purpose for many people to be involved. Second, I will not pay membership dues to a club that does not keep a regularly updated website (where the funds are, financial statements, current events, pictures GALORE, who handles everything, etc the list could go on forever).

Next: Organization: This meet was put toghether in a little over a month and look what we had, shirts: $5, over 20 door prizes, 20 RX8's in attendance, a gift for the organizer!! Could it have been better, yes, will the next one be better, you can guarentee it based on the things we learned from this one. Also, there were people there from all over the state so involvement when planned ahead was not a problem.

Website: Take a look at MazdaNow.com thanks to Randy this site has been updated almost everyday since its inception and I don't think that it will stop at that, the website grows everday and is updated with everything we do, for FREE. This is all from a member and a friend who loves the car.

Most people are here because they like the car and enjoy meeting new people, granted I did orginally suggest an executive board but I have since resended my suggestion and changed it based on the feedback I have recieved.

Please don't take any of this the wrong way or against the MRCCFL, anyone is welcome to join that club and be a part of that as well. But my whole point here was that in order to have some organization based on the sized meets that we are planning and the sponsorship that we are recieving it was a good idea to become a more organized club. I don't think that anyone will agree to donating the money that we have left over from this meet to the MRCCFL or to my pocket, they want to keep it in the club as do I, so with that said we need some organization to handle this money as well as venues for future meets, clean up crews, etc.....

I hope this post does not anger anyone but help to clear up the idea of a FL RX-8 Organization.

Edit: Also, could everyone help to keep this on topic, Don't worry driven you will be able to coordinate another meet.

greese 04-27-2004 05:57 PM

I think the MRCCFL got brought up becuase they weren't sure the people wanting to organize an 8's only club were aware of it's existence.

I think the people have a point though. It sounds like MRCCFL could probably use an infusion of enthusiasm from some of us new Rotary owners. They have managed to keep their club going since 96 so it must not be as bad as their website (sorry guys, but that website needs some help. pm me)

You're drivin a $30k car that gets crappy mileage. Is $25 a year really that bad? What are you going to do when you have 100 members in a RX8 club and you want to send everyone a newsletter? You gotta have dues for just about any club unless you are rich and don't mind financing it out of your pocket. In which case, sign me up.

EXACTLY right! The MRCCFL needs an infusion of rotary lovers and this past meet in Orlando is a prime example of why. Rotary enthusiasm with the RX-8 crowd is awesome, and with the beginning of mods being available to your cars, we can only sit back with eager anticipation!

Website: Take a look at MazdaNow.com thanks to Randy this site has been updated almost everyday since its inception and I don't think that it will stop at that, the website grows everday and is updated with everything we do, for FREE. This is all from a member and a friend who loves the car.
I will agree that the website may be lacking in some things but you have to remember that we won't post every little event we have on the main site. Every BBQ, regional meet and get together is not on there. It is handled by regional officers of our club.

I don't think that anyone will agree to donating the money that we have left over from this meet to the MRCCFL
We don't want the money for us, all of our dues go directly to paying for our meets, our newsletter.

We would like RX-8s in the MRCCFL because:

1. You bring rotary enthusiasm to our existing community.
2. Your involvement makes us a stronger body to lobby for support in areas of sponsorship on a national level (think sevenstock east coast)
3. Our club isn't about just RX-7's...its in the name, its about Rotary.

No offense is taken with any of this and I realize after this LONG post that it is topic for a new thread.

BlueGrimRX8 04-27-2004 06:36 PM

Let me reiterate again that we are not looking for "Members" people here are already members of the rx8club, we were just looking for some florida organization. The website is the newsletter and it costs nothing to send a typed document to 100 email addresses. So from that aspect I guess I am financing it out of my pocket becuase I will be spending my time to do it, which I love to do so its not a problem.

Again what are the dues really paying for, the idea is to get sponsors for events if we can't get sponsors then we wont have them we will just meet. I already spen 30k I don't want to spend $25 more a year just to say I am a member and if that gets me a newsletter and an invitation to meets where anyone member or not is invited then maybe I am missing something...... We had a ton of giveaways for this meet and many interested parties for the next one and every one to come after that so I still miss why we would charge dues.

There is no problem with any one joining the MRCCFL and I think that their presence is know becuase there is a sticky at the top of the SE Forum so there is no reason no one doesn't know about them, but it seems that it is pretty obviuos that many people don't have any interest in it because it is not clearly communicated what they are getting when they are sending their hard earned money to an unknown cause.......

We want organization with many meets (large ones every couple months and small ones organized by different cities) and the large ones to have many different "Donations" to the club. This needs to be handled by a small group of people so that all the sponsors get treated right. That is what we are organizing here. And I don't see why we can't even advertise the MRCCFL at all of our meets or have them involved in all of them, there was even talk of them doing the BBQ at the last meet but it was a little to late.

Again I hope this helps clear things up!

evot23 04-27-2004 07:17 PM

Understood BlueGrimRX8. Thank-you.

I have been politely asked that MRCCFL stop posting on this thread regarding our club and membership, etc.

ALL MRCCFL members please refrain from further posts here regarding such matters.

Thanks!:)

dvls-7 04-27-2004 07:26 PM

As said before....the site could use some work....greese we just might take you up on your offer. The dues don't just go for the newsletter. Paid members get better benefits than non paid members. Again you don't have to pay the dues to be part of MRCCFL, but memberships does have its privilages.....eg recently the sebring event the organizers contacted us and paid members got in for free. Depending on the event being a paid member gets you in for free or gets you discounts, if funds have to be spent.
As recently becoming an officer I have made arrangements for paid members in my local area.....the shop listed in my sig, i have arranged for paid members to a discount on dyno pulls. If someone utilizes this then the membership has just paid for it self....regular dyno pulls are $75...paid members get it for $50.
Again no offense is taken by the comments, just clarifying the points that were brought up.

BlueGrimRX8 04-27-2004 07:43 PM

One question for you dvls does that extra $25 get paid by the club? or is it just being offered for as a donation by the shop, because that still doesn't tell me who gets my funds, because I can be a member all I want but I sure don't want to pay some of the officers car payments with my club dues, I want to see reciepts and financial statements showing that my $25 that I gave you paid for my $25 discount from this shop, this is just one of the many questions I am sure MANY if not ALL of the people here are wondering but just haven't taken the time to ask........

what would be really nice is a FL only topic under the regional forums here. I only bring it up here because most of the interested parties seem to be involved in this thread.

(one more off-topic post in this thread and i am pretty sure BlueGrim will hunt me down and bith-slap me)

The MazdaNow! website has been updated to include pictures of the recent Orlando, Now and Then, Rotary Engine Meet.

More pictures will be added tomorrow.

Orlando Meet

BlueGrimRX8 04-27-2004 08:06 PM

Greese, don't worry I agree with you I think we should have our own section under the SE forums becasue there is soo much activity, just take a look at ALL the replys to the Orlando meet thread!!!

Pinhy 04-27-2004 09:24 PM

wow...i missed some heated discussion today!!

first: MRCCFL is existing and a great club i am sure. but i want to see a club based off of THIS board which is a RX-8 (key part being the 8) club...not a rotary club. i drive my 8 because i love the way it looks, handles, drives...etc. i am sorry to say, but i didnt have much interest in the other types of cars at the meet because they are older, have a totally different look from my car, and have nothing in common with my car other than the MAZDA name and a rotary engine. dont get me wrong, i like meeting all the new people i can, but i came to RX8club.com cause i drive an RX8...not an RX7 or an S2000 or STi or 3000GT

now...within this forum, i would like to see a whole new folder on the forums called "FL RX8 Forum" or something like that. so everything in that folder pertains to local people talking about local events. i am kinda tired of having to read through titles of meets all over the SE (is NORTH carolina really a SOUTH state??)

i know a lot of you dont care about how we did it at the Cougar club we belonged to, but it WORKED and that is why a few of us are interested in doing it here. When FLNECO started out as 5 members breaking out of the SE chapter, who would have thought that three years later it would be the largest chapter in the country with around 200 members? ALL LIVING IN FL!! Have a look at www.fastcougar.com/forums and see how it is broken up. more and more states broke out of the general area chapters they were in as they grew larger and more years of the car came around. we had an event in orlando every year that people from canada, NY and michigan came to and loved it. we were the best chapter there. THAT is what i see in the future a FL chapter of rx8's also.

we had a great turnout of cars this weekend in orlando. 12 or so 8's for a car that has been out here for about 8 months is damn good. i would love to go to meets with all the same people and have a great crowd, but i also want to have meets with people who are doing the same mod i am or know more about my car than i do. like how to remove the brake calipers or the headlight assembly. 7 owners and 2 owners dont know that stuff about our car.

anyway...probably just pissed a bunch of people off, but dont take it that way. i am just very outspoken about how i feel and i feel strongly about taking a chance and organizing a more tight-knit group of people and having a place one these boards we can call our own. where our monies and meets and get togethers are ours.

greese 04-27-2004 09:43 PM

trust me Pinhy, when our 8's are showing their years, out of warranty and we need new apex seals done. Those "other" rotary owners will be our new best friends. They will know (hell, they already know) who is capable and able to take care of our engines.

Plus, our cars are not that different. I had an 83 RX7 GSL limited. My new rx8 sounds the same, feels the same, and even smells the same. And it is as different looking now and the 1st gen was then.

I think affiliated memberships is the way to go "Clearwater RX8's, member of the MRCCFL" that sort of thing. But i don't know if they work that way. I am not a member and have not met any of them. But it feels like it would work. i would be willing to try and help make it work.

Razpewton 04-27-2004 09:47 PM

wow...finally got home from work and was able to read this entire thread.

Eddie, is there a Jacksonville chapter of MRCCFL? Do they have any events around here? Is there a schedule somewhere?

I'm a pretty much go-with-the-flow kind of guy. I enjoyed meeting all the people who showed up at the Orlando Meet. That seemed to go off pretty well. Actually, I enjoyed the whole evolution of the event.

I'm not sure what we would need money for, or to pay dues. Everything seemed to work out okay for Orlando and that was pretty much free, except if they wanted a t-shirt, lunch and probably a couple thousand dollars for gas. LOL

Anyways...whatever ya'll decide, I'm good. When's the next meet?? Ocala?? Yeeeeeeeeee Haw!!:D

p.s. there were 17 RX-8's at the meet.

Pinhy 04-27-2004 10:00 PM

i wasnt saying that having the rx7 guys around was not good....im just saying ...

ahh screw it....i'll just shut up, have no opinion, and do whatever everyone else decides....maybe i should have bought a 350Z....

hahahahaha

Razpewton 04-28-2004 05:35 AM

trust me Pinhy, when our 8's are showing their years
When my 8 starts showing it's years, I'll be trading it in on an RX-9. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee HAW!!:D :D

evot23 04-28-2004 06:22 AM

i am sorry to say, but i didnt have much interest in the other types of cars at the meet because they are older, have a totally different look from my car, and have nothing in common with my car other than the MAZDA name and a rotary engine.
Seems to be the feeling I'm getting judging from emails. Rotary is the unity in our club, not the RX model, hence the name.

Eddie, is there a Jacksonville chapter of MRCCFL? Do they have any events around here? Is there a schedule somewhere?
Jacksonville falls under 1st Coast Region (mine). We do have regional events, posted separately as all region events are. No set schedule at this time.

I think affiliated memberships is the way to go "Clearwater RX8's, member of the MRCCFL
Thats what we do, 1st coast region, gold coast, etc.

trust me Pinhy, when our 8's are showing their years, out of warranty and we need new apex seals done. Those "other" rotary owners will be our new best friends.
We are your friends. That's what rotary is about. Mazda made the changes to the rotary to the Renesis basically from what tuners have been doing to it all these years.

Rotary has a long history, we all want to be part of the RX-8 chapter of it. And high powers willing, when generation FD becomes FE...we will all still be here to enjoy it.

MRCCFL: We will start a new thread with all the info.

Thank you.

Rotor4Play 04-28-2004 09:51 AM

I don't see where we're that far apart. We need local organizaton to be able to grow in numbers so when we go to the larger events we can be fruitful and multiply. It just seems natural for the generations to stick together and that's good. Hell after you've seen the cars once and find there exactly the same then and since we all have different taste it comes down to the people and creativity (what has someone done different to there car) I enjoyed the Orlando meet and want to be part of more, be it 8's 7's, 4's, 3's, 2's Mazda damn near killed the Rotory with the 3rd. gen's complexity and unreliability. The only reason they still run is the knowledge shared buy private sector and there love for the car. Now were hoping the 8 will help keep the rotary alive. I would love to see the Miata with a rotary option. If there's something going on in your area let us know, if we can come we will. If you just want 8's post it as exclusive to 8's nothingwrong with that. Again thanks for the event and here's to the future. Jack

hahahahaha

Sometimes this is the way to go......Iguess we will leave it like it is and have meets like we do. It was an idea that had worked in the past, but there is a little too much segregation here.

The club will still be a blast and I hope every meet turns out better than the last and I will do what I can to help that!

/Rant OVER

Pinhy 04-28-2004 07:28 PM

i agree....

if every meet is even close to this past weekends meet...this will be a great club no matter what kinda "m-organ-ization" (haha) it has....

i am looking forward to getting to know everyone (7 or 8) better and meeting lots of people. that is why i want to be involved in a car club.....

i just want to defend my earlier comment....for the car, i am only interested in the 8...for the people, i dont care what you drive, we can still be "friends" in some definition of the word. im not THAT superficial!!

peace!

Morgan 04-28-2004 07:40 PM

yay! Morgan can still do coordination stuff! yay!
