Hey Club!

Been looking to pick up a R3 checking usual resources. I've found out you really have to pull the trigger when you find one. I'll entertain all cars; garage queens to salvage titles and higher mileage. Preferably black in close to stock condition. I'll fly out or ship, depending on condition, price, etc. Cash in hand. No bank loans or BS. Let me know.

Please feel free to contact me directly.

Thank you,
-Paul

Hi, I'm a new member here and I hope I can post here, but I am selling my rx8. It's a 6 speed velocity red 2007 gt. It is a rebuilt(salvage) title, but I have pictures of why it was considered such. Figured I'd post in case you're interested.

Some very nice cars offered but haven't found the right 8 yet. Learned that I'm looking for a stock or very lightly modded r3. Mileage and title condition negotiable. Preferably BLK or VR.

speed7 -- when you say "complete computer system" -- what specific parts do you mean?

You've paved the way, it seems doable. The barriers to getting TPMS working are knowing the specific parts needed, finding a programmer for the cluster (any recs from e-bay?), and finding a friendly Mazda dealer to swap the parts (might be the hardest).

Looking through Mazda's user manual for their IDC...

http://www.obd2diy.fr/upload/pro/ids...-mazda-eng.pdf

it seems on page 80 (83 in the PDF) there might be a TPMS module inherent in the programming of the ECU that could be activated. Of course, it still might require additional hardware for the TPMS sensors to be picked up. And, of course, somebody with IDC willing to do the programming. The subscription for the software alone is $1000/year plus the cost of the hardware.

Sorry I didn't see this till now. The TPMS functionality is in the cluster and uses the keyless entry antennas to communicate to the wheels. I bought a "kit" off of ebay. Bought them from a seller named fattimotorworks, which I am 99% sure is a user here on the forum as well. The kit was titled "2009 RX8 RX-8 R3 Engine Computer ECU PCM BCM Key Ignition Immobilizer w/ Locks". I paid a dealer to swap these parts and then also reprogram my keys to work with the new computer system. That kit cost me $250 and the work done on at the dealership car cost me another $500.. but like you said.. the subscription costs $1k and there is no guarantee that it would work. I asked the dealership about this and they were slightly lost when it came to the reprogramming of anything.

In the end when I have time I would like to nail down exactly what it is that needs to happen with the original computer system in the car. But for now with the Canadian version, I didn't lose any functionality. I still have my auto headlights, wipers, and climate control. And I still retained the daytime driving lights, which honestly I think is pretty cool. And with the TPMS functionality working I have a "safer" Rx8 according to DOT.

I'm working also on the side with someone in Canada who wants to enable TPMS on their car not for selling to the US, but for their own use. Their approach is actually making a change to the security module using Forscan. Our theory is that the system natively works... but perhaps the TPMS cluster wasn't being allowed to communicate through the security system. The change they found might be the key. I'll be sending him a cluster with the TPMS functionality hopefully by mid July. If this works then we'll have moved the cost down from $750 to a the cost of a cluster and the use of a free program.

So while I did kinda solve it.. as a systems engineer.. I don't feel it's solved. Not truly at least.

I mean, I did lose a tire because I didn't catch it in time, and ended up replacing the whole set because the said tire was discontinued. I was too accustomed to having it on my old Accord(indirect system, but still).

And while there are aftermarket solutions, I don't want to get my car too clustered, and the quality of a lot of these kits, from the reviews, is a bit of hit or miss. Bonus that if I sell the car to someone in the US, they will have an easier time importing it.

So far it seems like you just need to change one bit in the RKI module, but I will have to test this theory.

Keep in mind that this is only for 8s with the card key(AKI). Fobs have a different system, so someone else would have to find out how it works.

I found mine through Car Guru, reasonably happy with the dealer experience. Ime, if they're the same cars I contacted, I would pass and keep looking. May take some time and patience. GL!

There are 7 in Canada atm. Which color do you want? Blue, red, or black?

there is a black one for $9500 that has just under 20k miles on the odometer.

You still want to try your little theory out, don't you?

If someone wants a Canadian GT, hit me up.

No, I already have mine done. Just pointing it out to others who don’t want to spend 22k on an R3.
