2005 Titanium Grey RX-8 with lots of mods

SOLD SOLD SOLD - THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR INTEREST AND GOOD WORDS

Hello all, finally have gotten to the point where I need to consolidate vehicles, and unfortunately I've decided to sell my rotary powered Mazda (as well as another car and a motorcycle - fire sale!). The RX-8 GT 6-speed for sale here, has been my baby since 2006. There was one other (original) owner who put on 29,000 miles, I put on the rest. The previous owner made no mods, and was actually best friends with the owner of our city's largest Mazda dealership (Jim Click) - That's the only previous history I know.

This car has never let me down, and since I have put so much time and money into the personalization of the car, I am hoping to sell it to a rotary enthusiast here, who has more time than I do to give the car the TLC it needs. I just haven't had time lately to baby the car as much as I would like. I will get some more recent pictures for anyone who wants them, as the ones I have here are from summer of 2009. No modifications have been done to the car since these pictures. I will be back to visit this thread if there are questions, and I will continue to add info as I have time... but for now-

Basic list:

Stock Original Engine, never been out of car, Penzoil Platinum 10W30 used exclusively, Neodymium magnet placed on oil filter for extra help (can't hurt! lol). No leaks to speak of, save for a single small drop about once every 2 months

Mazsport Ignition Solution

Running about 85% water 15% coolant w/ water-wetter for hi temp desert use.

Custom fan controller with independent user switch (bypassing ECU fan control) -both fans operate together, but at variable speeds, 100% over-ride switch under dash.

New Red Top battery as of about 2 months ago (yellow top finally died after 5 years)

Vented carbon fiber hood, painted to match

Custom Wilwood big brake kit with stainless steel lines...this is Photomonkey's original prototype kit - (the rears are custom rotors and extended caliper mount, but stock use calipers)

Agency power exhaust (cat back only, was just too obnoxious with a cat bypass!)

JIC coil-over suspension FLT-A2 - I think these are the heavier springs (9/5 kg's?)

Agency Power rear sway bar end-links

Axial Flow short shifter REMOVED FROM CAR

Genuine MazdaSpeed front bumper - was green as new, but had painted to match

JDM style (Ganador, thx ninjajim!) side mirrors painted to match (for Japanese RHD car however) REMOVED FROM CAR

Custom modified OEM rear bumper - some I ideas I had as an alternative to what was out there at the time...I think it came out pretty good

RotaryFX (RX-8 Strakes) side grills painted to match

Tan leather interior with driver side heat and power adjustments (converted from black fabric)

19X8 Privat Netz wheels with Mazda centercaps

LED lights throughout car....(I think every single one) and blue footwell LEDs REMOVED FROM CAR

6000K PIAA HID headlight bulbs (stock hi-beams) REMOVED FROM CAR

Project KICS? lug nuts (I think? Can verify if it matters - they are two piece style REMOVED FROM CAR

Clear side markers REMOVED FROM CAR

Added higher-end tweeters at stock location to supplant the OEM mid-high driver REMOVED FROM CAR

Mazda mudguards and rocker panel embellishments

2005 Pontiac GTO rear wing with working LED, painted to match

Extensively integrated car computer (which may be removed, if the buyer doesn't want it or the offered price demands it). The basics - a mini-ATX motherboard with real hard drive in glove box, running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Intel 7200 2GHz. Bluetooth Parrot integrated hands free (with A2DP protocol). Hymee SCANalyzer permantly installed, with software. Control box so that audio from the computer feeds into the CD/EX 1 input on the stereo. Rear NTSC camera with status light on dash. Factory Mazda Nav Hood, gutted and 7" Xenarc screen installed (touch portion does not work anymore). Option for dash mount Logitech ball cam. DC-DC power supply made for car computers. 2 GB ram and 320 GB hard drive (I think). Custom wired rotary encoder for some computer interface fun (Griffin Powermate) and slot load DVD player. HD Radio unit installed. I also have XM PCR installed and running through the windows interface, but I will likely be keeping that box - I will leave the XM antenna installed on rear trunk lid however. REMOVED FROM CAR

I will get VIN numbers, tire tread depths, cosmetic problem notes/pictures, current issues/notes etc... over the next few days; just wanted to get this post up to start the process. Thanks for looking-

UPDATE 1/10/12
OK, here are some issues and extras I would like to disclose:

Cosmetically the car is fine, never been in an accident, and no significant door digs etc... However, it does have almost 7 years of driving on it, and the custom body work (paint) does not hold up to rock chips very well. You can see the peppering in the photos if you look close, and that was a couple of years ago. Also, the front lip has a small crack in it, which happened on June 26th 2009 at a gosh-damn gas station that had those cement big filler cones...wasn't paying full attention...it popped out the front grill too...I just left it out for looks...the crack has not spread, and I still have all the grill stuff. The painted carbon fiber hood is a bit faded as it doesn't have the level of clear coat that the rest of the car has...still fine and no hazing. The custom rear bumper looked great from day one, up until I installed the Agency Power exhaust and it melted the bumper and paint somewhat... not pretty but that's what I get for using a stock bumper for the big 'ole cans. I can take pics if you need em, no problem. Wheels are in OK shape, I bought them used from a member here many years ago - the usual scrapes and dings, a couple had been repaired at nu-wheel over the years. The interior was converted to tan leather, and I found a really nice set from a wrecker...but the idiots shipped them without any regard for protecting the surfaces, and there are some nicks and gauges on the passenger door panel. Leather is all OK. With the vented hood, the engine bay is impossible to keep clean, but again, just a matter of TLC from a new owner. I think it is about time for the JIC dampers to be rebuilt, but the car handles amazing on nicely paved roads...but it can really be annoying on pothole roads - part of that is the nature of the beast, the other part the dampers. The SSV valve threw a CEL last year (freezing cold out that day), but I ran some Techron through the tank and cleared the code via SCANalyzer, and it hasn't come back. I'd guess it wouldn't hurt to replace it with the new version one day. There are NO CELs as of now, and TPMS are installed and working in these wheels. Speaking of new versions, I have upgraded the starter motor with the new larger design some years ago, as well as the motor mounts just to be sure (never had a problem with the old style though). Re-soldered the AC/Heat control knob (common problem), and has worked perfect for years now. Tranny and diff both have Royal Purple 75W90 in them, but should probably be changed by the new owner...it's just time. Clutch is original, and I am very easy on them...My Honda CRXsi went 125K on the OEM clutch. No problems shifting, and no popping out of gears or anything out of the ordinary. Wilwood brakes are phenomenal, and I am very light on those too. Keep in mind that I'll be happy to explain all the mods, tips, and quirks to the prospective buyer. In short, I'd recommend new fluids, suspension check/rebuild, cleaning and detail, and you're pretty much done for a while. Two of the tires are fairly new, I will try to get tread depths this weekend.

More Stuff:
I have quite a bit of the OEM bits and pieces, and even some replacement parts that I had planned to use. I have most of the black/grey cloth interior panels, rear seats too. Agency power front sway bar, used, but never installed on my car. I also have a 'custom' ebay sub-woofer box loaded with MOMO 10"s and a Sony amp too.

Thanks all!

No parting out I'm afraid - but the buyer will have lots of extras and pieces to go with the car or sell.

Easy_E1 01-14-2012 09:58 PM

Sorry to see the 8 go my friend. Good luck with the sale.

Todd TCE 01-16-2012 07:55 PM

Glad to see and hear that the brakes are still in good shape and up to the task.

Sadly the market for this kit just never took hold and I think we sold maybe five of them over the years.... a couple of them overseas!

Chamberlin 01-16-2012 08:19 PM

Thanks for the check-in Erick - hope you Phoenix boys are all doing OK.

Good info Todd, I appreciate you posting those numbers. The brakes are indeed phenomenal, and great looking too.

Chamberlin 01-17-2012 08:01 PM

BUMP for a super nice car at a great price!
If you were local I'd consider buying it given all the good work you've done too it.
GLWS!

Chamberlin 01-20-2012 04:37 PM

Thanks again guys, your comments are much appreciated! And SilverBullet, I have a car shipper standing by, he just shipped a car for me yesterday! LOL

Somebody requested the tire info, so here you go:

The wheels are 19x8 all the way around, I'm not sure what offset they are. Two of the tires are newer than the other two, but they are all the same type (Dunlop Direza 245/35/19)

The tread depths are as follows (from digital measuring tool)

RR - 0.210 - 7/32
LR - 0.210 - 7/32
FL - 0.150 - 5/32
FR - 0.125 - 4/32

Chamberlin 01-30-2012 01:15 PM

c'mon guys, don't make me take this 8 to CarMax or something!

Chamberlin 02-01-2012 11:32 PM

Now considering pulling the electronics out and some other items this weekend if I have time. So please let me know ASAP if you are interested in the car as-is.

9krpmrx8 02-01-2012 11:38 PM

Shit this is a good deal. I can't believe clean cars like this don't sell as is and quick. Sad to see you go man, this car was always one of my favs.

JantzenRX-8 02-02-2012 12:07 AM

I would probably buy this but to be honest i would just cannibalize it into my titanium grey RX8 and re-sell it closer to stock trim. If you're not against that send me a pm.

Chamberlin 02-02-2012 03:23 PM

PM Sent!

Chamberlin 02-04-2012 10:06 PM

UPDATE WITH PRICE REDUCTION, AND INFO ON ITEMS THAT HAVE BEEN REMOVED

I will be parting out some of the parts that are removed, but not until the car is gone and I know for sure what I am keeping etc...

bwaltz 02-06-2012 07:30 PM

I'm some what interested

Hey down there, I,m up Here in Phoenix and I came across your add, I'm a little torn of either going to the dealership for an 8 or yours. So i Have a few questions, First has the vehicle obtained all the factory recalls if not what ones. Second Hows the compression and have you had it tested. Third is the cat converter still good or does it need replacing as well as the ignition system, i do know that those items were iffy that year. Last is I have read threw your list and wondering if it will still have the factory warranty even with the extension that Mazda allowed for free. Like I said, I am interested please let me know what up. Thank you for the opportunity.
