I bought my zaino quite a while back but finally got around to doing it.

At first I was a bit intimidated by the process but once I got going with it, it was actually quite simple.

Clay Bar - I'd never done this to a car before so I was worried but it turned out to be SUPER EASY! Make sure you're using the Z7 w/ water to lubricate.(used a Home Depot spray bottle) It feels just like gliding a hockey puck across the ice.

Z2 & ZFX - Mixed up a 2 ounce bottle of it and it was good for 2 whole coats. A little bit definitely does go a long way

Z5 & ZFX - Used about 1 ounce to do the entire car. It doesn't glide on as easily as the Z2 but still pretty simple.

I got up late that morning, didn't start till about 11:30 and then Daylight Saving's time messed me up a bit but I managed to do 3 coats and it came out AWESOME.

I've never felt a car so smooooth....

I didn't take very good pictures afterwards since it was already dark but here are a few photos from the following morning.

You guys be the judge: :)
- Note all the reflections on that first picture; Red RX-8 in the mirror, the entire roof, the clouds off the side, and even me taking the picture.

- The second just shows the great overall shine of the car.

It looks really nice.. how long did it take you? I want to get my car detailed, and would like to do it myself, I just dont think I have the time right now so I am looking into one of those mobile detailing companys. Also, how much did all the supplys cost you?

terrypk1 11-08-2005 01:44 AM

i am kind of jealous of you guys now.
freak. i hope that i am in somewhere south.
In vancouver, now, you can hardly get a bright day to wax and wash your car.
sadly, i just recieved my zaino kit at the beginning of november. so in other words, i will have to wait till next year to try it on.

Thanks everyone!

Total time was about 6 hours or so.
(Keep in mind that almost 4 hours of that was spent playing on my computer as the zaino dried)

Was it worth giving up my entire Saturday to do?? YES!!
Unfortunately if you don't have a garage or a lot of time on your hands, this might not be the product for you. :( .

I wasn't the only one parked in the dirt...

KY, and Tigerlee,

THANKS!

If the weather warms up a bit this weekend, I might put on another 3 coats. :)

If I do that, I'll take some better up-close photos for everyone.

Jedi Did you do the wheels too? They're looking freakin clean! The cleanest I've seen yet.

Lookin squeeky clean. I'm just biding my time, looking for the best products to use when i get back to the states. Zaino looks like the product everyone uses though. What all should a kit contain? I'm guessing the Z-1/ZFX, Z-2 or Z-5 and Z-6 along with the Z18 clay bar. What else?

Jedi54 11-11-2005 01:08 PM

Paradigm,
Thanks for checking out my thread and for the compliments. :)
Zaino seems to be the preferred product for most of the people here. Now that I've tried it, I can honestly say that I will never put anything else on my car. This stuff RULES.

Get this and you'll be set:
Zaino Total Protection Package
Has everything you need to get your car done.
Oh, you'll also need some good Micro Fiber towels...

What color is yours? If it has ANY swirl marks at all, I'd highly suggest doing a coat of Z5. Just make sure that you always finish with a coat of Z2 since it has much higher optical characteristics. (aka much shinier!)

3 More Coats!!

Got up early and did 3 more coats of Zaino

-Z5, Z2, Z2

Unfortunately I got done right as the sun was going down so the only pictures I took were of it still in the garage.

Tomorrow I'll try and get some pictures of it out in the sun. :)

Let me know what you think:

Hey, when are you gonna head out to Malibu with us?

You'd have a BLAST!

fanaticz 07-20-2006 12:03 AM

How in the world are you guys only spending 6 hours and applying 3 coats of zaino???? It takes me like 3 hours just to put on one. What the heck are you guys doing? I use a microfiber towel to apply and wipe off....

Jedi54 07-26-2006 03:33 PM

Fanaticz: 3 hours for one coat? Where are you located?
I'm in California and it's not very humid so the Zaino tends to "dry" in about an hour. How much are you using?

You're using a microfiber towel to apply?? That might part of the problem there. I use microfiber wax application pads (available either through Zaino or any auto parts store)

FastRX8 07-30-2006 02:03 AM

I'll probably being doing this a couple of times before SS9.
I'll buy the kit you suggested, and hit you up for some help... :)

I took advantage of the great weather today and hammered out another 3 coats!

- 2 coats of the New Z5 (which is WAY better then the old stuff)
- 1 coat of Z2.
- Z6 applied after each coat and at the end.

what do you guys think?

Great job dude,

so to you, in what way Z5 Pro better than Z5? Have you tried out Z8?

also, do you use zaino on the plastics(lens, trim...etc.) on your 8?

Thanks Conundrum! To answer your questions...

Z5 Pro seems to be better in the sense that it is not as 'thick' as the original Z5, (much thinner) it has MUCH better optical characteristics (shinier), and even seems to do better with those very fine scratches.

I don't use the Zaino on any of the plastics, I use NXT (big purple spray)...forget the exact name.
