Wow differences in microfiber towels, FiberWorks

I know there’s a couple of guys on here that stand by there Costco microfiber towels and will die by them as well as there’s a few guys on here that will sacrifice there first born saying that Mr. clean wont do anything bad to your finish.

But for the hardcore car care addicts like me, who will spend 3 hours washing outside then park it in the garage and spend another 5 hours applying coats of Zaino properly and detailing in the garage until 3am I suggest you all try Fiberworks Microfiber towels.

No not all microfiber towels are created equal, the whirlpool ones or any other that you by from Costco are most likely greater then 80% synthetic and if the badging "microfiber" was regulated federally those wouldn't meet any of the required standards.

I know alot of you use Pakshaks towels on here because of the GroupBuy he offered to use a while back, I've got about 40 of his towels in various condition sitting around from the past year and a half.

FiberWorks has recently inquired about becoming a forum vendor and believe it or not I actually care about you guys enough to test their products before just taking their advertising money, that and they were free samples. I like everyone of these towels more than PakShaks, here’s the run down of what I recommend from them.

I arrange all my towels for certain duties while washing the car, (i have little sandwich bags labeled "wash" "dry") IE towels for drying, towels for washing etc… Assuming you Zaino or use another similar process this what I would do.

For the wash: 1 Plush Microfiber Towel
For Underbody/Engine Bay: 1 Fine MicroFiber Towel
For Drying: 1 26x36 Waffle Weave and another Plush Microfiber Towel for spot drying.
For Waxing: I normally hate applicators but since this is covered in microfiber they work really well 2-3 (depending on how many coats you do in one session) Microfiber Applicators
For buffing off the wax: Trust me on this, Microfiber Wash Mitt
For apply Z-6/gloss enhancer in-between coats: (even softer) Extra Plush Microfiber Towel
Finally some Interior towels for Leather Conditioners/Mothers Back to Black etc...: 3 or so Fine Microfiber Towels

I'll post some clean pics when the sunset either tonight or tomorrow.

EDIT: O and look how nice he was he made my review into Rx8club.com Kit!@ take a look.

PoLaK

Thanks for the heads up, my towels are coming on their last days and I will be sure to pick up some of these soon.

khtm 07-07-2005 01:46 PM

hahaha nice package...some of those things in the package are cheaper by themselves (ie. the Waffle Weave Microfiber Towel)

Glyphon 07-07-2005 02:33 PM

yeah, but even if you buy the products individually, it still comes out to more than rx-8 package price. (by 26 cents :) )

khtm 07-07-2005 03:56 PM

weird...I guess they should really look into fixing that website then...coooonnnfuuussiinnngg

Flawless 07-07-2005 04:06 PM

khtm: I noticed the different prices in the kits (RX8 club and also some of the others) on the price of the items. I think its cause some of the stuff is in the specials section. maybe they don't give you special price if its in a kit? don't know how that works.

N8theGr8 07-07-2005 06:12 PM

welcome to the club everyone:-) These towels rock

PoLaK 07-09-2005 02:49 PM

Looks like he lowered the Price to fix that issue.

Yes... I used the wash, the paint cleanser, the paint protection, and the tire gel... I have yet to try the dash cleaner and the quick detail.

Since this is getting a bit off topic here, I'll leave it at that ;) but if you have any questions about it just pm me.

I just ordered some stuff from Fiber-works.
I hope it's as good as you guys claim it to be!
Actually, I have no idea how to clean or wax a car....getting some good materials to use would be a good starting point I suppose.
I wouldn't be able to tell a good micro-whatchamacallit from a bad one.

I really needed something to clean the interior and the windows, I hope that Fine MicroFiber towel will do the trick.

I'm just getting into this microfiber thing. I got 1 mf towel from Walmart that was highly recommended on another detailing forum, where they said one towel barely feels damp after drying the entire car. Well, that wasn't even close. If you have a decent wax on the car, which means nice beads of water after washing, the towel is completely soaked before the car is done. So much for that claim.

So any way, a couple ?s.

Re; the wax applicators. It seems the wax would thoroughly clog up the pores in the microfiber. What is the advantage of using a mf applicator, and how do you clean it?

Re; the mf mits. Same thing with clogging the pores/cleaning - and can one mit, as in the package, really do an entire car before becoming too caked with wax?

Do yo think the package has the right number of each item to do the job ?

Thanks

MF Applicator: Im not too sure how the whole thing with the pores work, but Ive used the applicator from Fiberworks and it worked great for me. I have tried it using Turbo wax and also meguiars NXT.

The mitt worked fairly well ... I used it when washing the car with a bucket of soap. I didnt use the mitt for wax so the mitt would not become acked up with wax. I think the mitt is meant for washing but you might be able to use it for other things as well.

As for the washing, I let the towels, mitts, applicators soak in a bucket of water with a little bit of vinegar. Then I just let them hang up to dry and they come out great.

towels

So do you leave the edge piping on the towels? or do you cut them off the way the website tells you to cut off the edges of the 100% cotton towels? I also have the question on cleaning them, I use Zaino, so do you just wash with water when you are done? or how do you clean your MF towels?
Thanks!!!

PoLaK 07-18-2005 08:34 PM

The way I wash my microfiber towels goes something like this:

I use a sink not the washer since the washer is full of lint and the towels will pick that lint up from clothes etc...

You must use a non fabric softened detergent, reason being fabric softeners are actually round microscopic balls that will clog the microfiber.

I never wash my "engine bay" towel with my "gloss enhancer" towel etc... so normally I poor a bit of detergent into some water, let it dissolve then soak the towels in there for a little bit, "wash" towels with wash towels "drying" towels with drying towels etc (about 6 separate loads)..... then rinse them THROUGHLY in warm water till all the detergent is out.

yes and yes

If you wash the MF applicator while the wax isn't dry and rough yet then most of it will come out.

If you are referring to the silk edge on some of the towel, I believe it is a scratchless material. If you attempt to cut it off, Im sure the towel will fall apart. I do not think that its meant to be removed, but then again I have not tried. You may want to double check with the company if you do plan to cut them off and see what they say about it.

Just bought the RX-8 club package. Quick delivery, and the towels look and feel good.

I'll most likely have a chance to wash my car this weekend. Woo I'm actually excited about washing my car!

Thanks Polak.

They named the kit after our club. that's gangster. I'll get a pack when I need to change.
