which wiper fluid? (do they damage wax/polish work)

So as I was driving late last night a gigantic bug ran into my windshield (or I ran into it, whatever) and so I pulled the trigger and let windshield wiper fluid fly to undo the splat from my field of vision...it worked really well...BUT it got me thinking...

if this stuff can aid in removing a bug...what is stopping it from removing a beatiful shine from a clean/waxing/polishing job...

So...my questions:
1. what to all of you do in regards to wiper fluid (not use it, etc.)
2. if you do use it what kinds do you use (keep in mind I live in minnesota so it must perform in -10 degrees fahrenheit standing temp and possibly -40 degrees with wind factored in (actually even the best product I have used on my old car would freeze at these temperatures, especially when the car is moving)...just so you know I will do my best NOT to use my car in these temperatures but so times I will not have a choice.
3. I probably have more questions about this...but I am new to car care since I had a bunch of jaloopies before this beauty and didn't care if a dog pissed on my old cars.

This isn't going to work in the winter for you, but I use distilled water when its above freezing. It doesn't spot, it doesn't evaporate too fast (like some blue stuff) and its a good dissolver of bug juice. I also use Rain-X...
