who has used those clay bars before?
i expieriemented with meguiars clay bar today, which is supposedly supposed to remove all enviromental buildup on the car. and the review is it SUCKS...i dono if my car was too hot, but all the clay bar did is ball up and leave smudges all over teh hood which took me quite a while to get off...now if the heat is the issue, i'm probably SOL cuz i live in vegas where it is currently 98 degrees outsdie even in the dead of night...haha, has anyone had any better expieriences with these things?? lemme know

haha thanks man this thread made me lol.

Please don't ever use drugs while working on your car or posting on an internet forum.
|
 ... omg... www.autopia.org ... click LEARN on top... and look for the clay bar article.... read up.
|
erm...if you were just rubbing it all over your car, of course it left smudges.....did you read the directions?
|
WTF?
Coffee/monitor moment right there. You're supposed to use it with water man ! |
^ Elara - hes not supposed to have smudges if hes doing it properly. with lube (quick detailer spray or car soap). maybe he didnt use lube? or... didnt knead? iuno... lol.
ALP22 - water alone doesnt have enough lubrication for the clay to slide properly w/o damaging the paint surface. |

water is you friend... and sun is bad.... clay bar is good...
comon sense is good... reading is fundamental... beers  |
Clay bar works really well. I dont know what you are talking about. You are suppose to use a quick detailer with it.
|
clayed in the sun, didn't use lubricant, lots of smudges left...
Sounds rather safe to say that you messed up almost every step. As for what to do from here...sounds like lots and lots of fine scrubbing. |
best detailing question ever!
|
sunglasses to dark, could not read instructions???
but i looked cooL beers  |
i think we'd all look cool if we all wore shades and rubbed clay onto our cars in the hot sun.
|
I used a clay bar for the first time Saturday and had no such problems. Why? I think it is because I actually read the directions.

Anyways came to this thread looking for some tips 'eh off to Autopia I guess.. |
At least you found the right place to post this question...Meguiar's Quick Detailer is key to clay barring.

Is this for real?? Or just trolling? OTOH--the question applies to this whole thread. |

Problem is, the original person was too dumb/didn't realize it was a joke. They posted again a few days later saying they tried the brake fluid and now were wondering what was wrong because all of the paint was peeling off the car. |
