Whitish marks?
 

hey just finished washing the car. I had clay barred and waxed with meguars beginner kit for the first time a few months ago. So the car is looking good, but I feel like its time for a proper buff to get out some scratches and marks. Anyway, originally the meguars stuff was something like a paste, that you wipe on, let dry, and wipe off. I heard this was the best for durability and stuff. But after I washed the 8 and began drying it, I began to notice some white residue getting all over the car. It was extremely irritating because I had no idea if it was from the towel or what. I tried wiping it off, but it was sort of difficult, and kept getting everywhere else. I was just wondering what you guys/girls think it may be. Does wax start "coming off" after certain amount of time? or do u think i just had a dirty towel lol?


also one other thing. I took my car in a couple weeks ago to get dent fixed. anyway, when i got home i noticed a mark on my headlight, that made the plastic sort of blurry. I was wondering what you'd use to clean the headlights to get this off? finally they seamed to spill some sort of paste on my wheel that left some white marks. what wheel cleaner would you recommends for this and other grease marks that wont come off with soap and water?

You probably just didn't buff off some of the marks in the cracks. For wheel cleaner, if you have stock wheels I would use something from meguiars for alloy wheels and then I would wax them. For the headlights, try meguiars plast-x. I heard this stuff actually works. Hope this helps.

Most paste waxes leave a white, powdery, residue upon drying. Turn your buff cloth frequently and have several available.

Avoid getting wax in crevices, as it's very hard to get out the residue. A toothbrush comes in handy.

Use less wax. Less is more.

Or, use Turtle Wax Ice sealant and be residue carefree.

I use more than one and I wash and wax by hand and yes it will leave a powdery (its just clay or what ever) residue when dryed and will flake all over your car. Use a air compressor or car duster for that.

I dont know about the less is more lol I use a lot but thats just me.

thanks for all the help.. the only thing is that, I waxed like 2-3 months ago. So I find it odd that I would get this residue now?

also when I re-wax, I'd like to buff this time, and get out minor scratches, marks, so what would you guys recommend. I'm looking for something relatively well-priced, but that'll get the job done. No zaino stuff or anything. What kind of polish is good, etc.?

Start with the least abrasive polish and then only move up if absolutely necessary. A random orbital polisher comes in handy.

I like Griot's Garage products, but there are many good ones.
