What will you use to keep it shiny?
Personally I'm a big fan of "polymer" type protectants and use Zaino. Love the results.
Carnuba type waxes are too hard to use and simply don't last nearly enough or provide the same results imo. |
wanna hear something funny?

Judging by this post you probably have never driven one either.. Unless they give out licences to 14 year olds.. :p :D

I had a cloth that absorbed dust without scratching. I think they are called "Quik Cloth" or "Crazy Cloth" something like that. I used it on my black 83-RX7, and it worked like a charm.
Anyways - that, lots of liquid wax, armour all, mild car detergent, real chamois and lots of love and affection. Oh and Rain-X windshield fluid. |

Malco Showroom Shine spray on wax
To keep it clean and new all year round. |
I use Valma products, I don't know if they sell this brand outside Europe. IMO, it's one of the best products on the market.
|
I've had good luck with Meguiar's products, the Cleaner-Wax after a winter's hideous sand and salt seems to remove the tiny scratches and dullness. Then I use the Gold Class when the oxidation or scratches aren't a problem.
Thinking I might try Zymol sometime. |
Here is a "home made" wax comparison by the NSX guys... Our club will be doing the same this spring.
http://www.nsxsc.com/nsexcitement/waxtest.html I've heard Klasse polymer is also very good. |
Auto Glym's polishes are pretty good. T-cut colour fast if a bird craps on it and removes the shine.
|
Wax on Wax Off
I have found and have used for years, Zymol. IMO that's the BEST wax to use on a car. The darker the color, the more Zymol shines. It lasts a long time and it is very delicate on paints. It is the only car wax that contains banana extracts. If you smell closely, your RX-8 will smell like a subtle hint of banana. Zymol is the s*!^t.

Auto glym- super resin followed by Extra Gloss. looks fab on my CTR anyway.

Ah-ha - another GTFer - I'm KillerB2200 there.

And I be CudaMan over there. :) [I know you know, KillerB, but I don't think Ali does. ;)]

I use Zymol--the $50 Japon formula. Yeah, sometimes it can be tough to work with if it's cold out, but I like it anyway; although I must admit I switched to Zaino for a short while a few years ago and thought the shine appeared deeper and wetter. Even though Zaino is a liquid and wipes off quite easy, I considered the process to be harder only in that it required all those steps and layers to get results, not to mention waiting for each layer to completely dry before applying the next coat. I also felt that while Zaino left an excellent shine, it might not have been protecting my paint as well as a good wax. Sure, you wipe off wax too, but surely a tiny film remains, otherwise one couldn't burnish the shine. Plus, being able to slide a huge chunk of bird shit off the paint like a fried egg off a non-stick pan is just like magic. (^_^) For me, knowing there's even a thinest layer of wax gives me peace of mind.

Shiny car wars!
I love these. ;)
I have no idea what wax/polish my detailer uses on my car. I do know it's not Zaino, because I asked him about that and he hadn't heard of it. http://home.earthlink.net/~bryan64/p...ningfender.jpg http://home.earthlink.net/~bryan64/p.../windhood2.jpg More pics here: http://home.earthlink.net/~bryan64/pics/shine/hires/ By the way my car has the original, fade-happy Toyota Super Red paint job from 1987. |
Zaino... I've got a 2 year old Cobra without a single swirl mark that attests to the magic that is Zaino...

Nice job guys!

Guess I'll pick up some Zaino.

as seen on TV
have you guys heard of/used that stuff that used to be on TV that was, like, laser proof? It was supposed to be the ultimate car wax/protectant.
________ FOOT PROBLEMS FORUMS |
Does anybody know if Zaino is available in Europe? I have looked but I couldn't find it. Maybe it is marketed under a different name?
|
Zaino's only available via mail order. Their web site ( http://www.zainobros.com ) has the order form. I don't know if they ship internationally, but if you dash off an email to them, I'm sure you'll get a quick reply (I've had occasion to email them in the past, and the reply was very quick).

Those luck enough to be the GTA (Greater Toronto Area for non Canadians) you can purchase the entire line of Zaino products in a barbershop in the Mississauga Square One mall. It's the only retail outlet that I am aware of that carries the product line. It sounds a bit silly but yes a barbershop does carry the product line. I forget the name of the barbershop but it is on the lower level of the mall next to Wal-Mart.

Bought most of the "system", and now it sits in my closet awaiting the arrival of my 8... |

Klasse
This thread sounds like the Zaino Fan Club.
I will be using Klasse All-In-One as an acrylic polymer base, then follow it with a couple of coats of good carnuaba wax, probably Pinnacle. Started using this on my motorbike's black bits, and nothing else came close. Seems to work best on dark colours, so not sure how the deep shine will look on Tit grey. (Zaino is also a polymer base, so it would probably benefit from the 'base coat/wax coat' treatment too, its fans really like their results!) Ray. |
I think I'll get a yellow one and use the way that smells like Bananas!

Anybody ever use a product called Liquid Glass? That stuff is awesome. I have tried about every kind of liquid polish/wax out there (excpet Zaino), and nothing even comes close to this stuff.
It is very hard to find in stores, and it is fairly expensive, but it works great. I have been using it for about 10 years now, so I've had quite a bit of experience with how well it holds up and how well it works. It must be similar to Zaino, because the more coats you apply, the deeper and smoother the shine gets. Water beads pefectly forever after applying it and dead sun-baked bugs will almost literally spray right off with a garden hose. It actually lists on the can (yes....it still comes in a metal can) that you should park the car out in the sun for 2+hours after applying it to "bake" it into the finish. On dark colored cars you have to apply it fairly evenly or you will actually be able to see deeper shine in spots that it was applied thicker on. Anyway....if you guys ever run across this stuff anywhere, buy some and try it. I assume they have a web site where it could be ordered, but I haven't looked. The last place I have seen this stuff was actually at a Sears Hardware store of all places! I bought the last 2 cans they had and I'm about out. |
Thanks for the post re: Liquid Glass. I've been trying to find a user here abouts. Just got some at Pep Boys. It certainly sound good, so I'll try it now I guess on my red RX-8.
