Bumping this thread as I saw a couple of 8s over the weekend with simply egregious rear bumpers, especially bad on the sides. They were light grey. Either the sun had killed them or they were waxed. My guess is wax. Hope you are a member here, that you read this, and that it helps. Those bumpers were sad guys....

Wax on black molding
Get some "back to black" from a auto store and use it when the exhaust tips are cooled down so you dont burn your hands lol
Mine are white due to the extream heat of the exhaust tips. My rear bumper is yellow black brown from the exhaust lol looks really jdm :lol2:

make a alcohol water solution in a spray bottle( 90% water 10% alcohol) and terry cloth rub it off and use a silicon based dressing to revive the molding....

Dishwashing liquid is safe and an excellent wax remover.
Avoid any method that involves any type of abrasive, including clay.
WD-40 will not harm automotive exterior plastic.
Avoid using any type of wax on your car in the future, you will dodge that build up and removal problem.

The best approach would be to be more careful when waxing your car. Unfortunately we are forced to learn from our mistakes. You never want to get wax on the black plastic parts of the car. As far as I know there is no way to totally rectify the issue. As mentioned both Armorall and Back to Black will work temporarily. I use painters tape when waxing my cars to mask off the black portions of the car. I learned at an early age that wax and black plastic do not play nicely together.

I got some wax on my winshield wipers. Not the actual wipers themselves but the arm. And as most of you know its like a black plastic/mettalish material. And that was one hell of a bitch to remove. I tried dish washing soap, tire dressing, aero 303, back to black but it would show up a few hours later. I then tried the zaino tire dressing on it and it looked brand new !!!! God bless Zaino :)

That's exactly what I am fighting with, freaking arms of the wipers. You haven't actually removed the wax though, you just covered it up with dressing. Pretty sure it will come off in the rain or after a few days/weeks.

Nope the wax is GONE !!! :). Its been well over 2 months since i used the zaino stuff on it. It has rained, snowed and even taken through a touchless car wash and the wax does not show up.

Try it it works :) Or you can also try alcohol. The stuff detailers use to remove wax.

hey guys.......Remove with BASF 900 wax remover (body shop specific) will make the plastic seem faded, as all the oils are removed
then apply Turtle Wax Ice. This worked awesome.
900 is also go at removinf all tar, wax, grease, sticker glue....everything and is paint safe. Body shops use it as a prep before/during paint and body work. great stuff to have in the garage.
-check any Autobody supply store and say "900" common term in the industry.

Managed to pick up some back to black on sale at AZ. Worked like a charm. Gone throw some snow and light rain and no sign of the wax.

stay away from the fender gills when waxing. :( shit is hard to remove. im gona go buy some back to black and see how that does.

peanut butter works, as told in this thread and another thread. It's weird enough to work.

A simple pencil eraser does the job.

The white one "Statler or Staetler" is the best one or even the one from Staples/Business Depot.

Its a common occurance but usually on just the edges. Ive never heard of anyone waxing the ENTIRE car plastics and all. Read labels on everything you use!

You are absolutely right. As I posted long ago in this thread, Turtle Wax Ice is the product to use. It does a reasonably good job on the car overall, and is actually recommended for the black plastic areas. I've used it for the past three years and have been very pleased. No white residue on the black plastic, no residue around the pinstriping, nothing in the cracks, it just works.

I then did my back exhaust cowling and b pillars too, didn't take any pictures of them, sorry, but it turned out great.

Used meguires quick detailer as my lube and wiped up any dribble.

Worked great for only $1
