Water spot help ....
 

I just recently moved in to some apartments and the water sprinklers that come on at night give my car some horrible water spots. After the water dries up it leaves a very rough film on it. My baby used to be very smooth and now the water is soo dirty/hard that my surface feels so rough. I am seriously considering on getting a garage to park my car in.

I tried washing my 8 last weekend and the water spots are not going away. I did wax my 8 with zaino about 1 month agom but the water spots are not going away yet. Any tips on what i should do? Should i try to rewax my 8 ?? Any words from the wise would be appreciated...

Bet you have a dark color...?!

WD-40 works well.
Make sure your car is clean first.
Spray WD-40 on a Folded T-Shirt or Diaper and have at it.
Don't try wiping the WD-40 off right away.
Instead rewash your car and dry it in the shade...

Strange, I have never had water spots that a quick detailer couldn't take off.

funny -- i have the SAME situation, in the hotel im living at, ALL their parking is right around this area that has massive sprinkler that come on at night and in the morning... it pisses me off because there is NOWHERE i can park to hide from these sprinklers. I have a brilliant black so my car gets raped with waterspots.

I too have noticed that my car's paint has a more "rough" feel to it... and while washing + drying with microfiber and doing a quick spray down of Z6... i still feel there is something on there. I need to seriously figure out something to do because I'm tired of their shitty sprinklers fucking up my car.

For windows and glass try Bon Ami powder
For painted places - DON'T WAX over it - it will trap the mineral in the wax
If it is high calcium spotting, try a good wine - the alcohol and and fruit acids will help dissolve it - if spots cling go for a cheaper wine with more vinegar - get a cotton ball, soak it place it on the spot to soften it, wash and rinse - make sure you remove all traces of the vinegar and don't get it on metal parts as acid can speed up rust. I would suggest just plain white vinegar for really bad areas but I don't like the smell that lingers. For white paint, I recommend a good Canelli, or even Champagne, blues and yellows like Zinfadel, for blacks a fine Cabernet, Creme Sherry,or a Noir... Suggested sources Erbell Wineries, Chalome Wineries, or use this as an excuse to go wine tasting up Paso Robles way - fall is a good time to buy just before the harvest when vintners want to clear space for the new grapes.

dam WD-40 is the king!

Here in Arizona, un-filtered water will permanently ruin your paint if you let it dry. Its so bad that I can only wash the car in the dark, if at all. I clean it dry now with microfiber and detailer.

To kill mineral spots, mix a 50/50 solution of white vinigar and water.

WD-40 will soften your paint. Detailer can't dissolve it and clay will only smooth it, not remove it.

I don't think our paint can get any softer...
His (our) water spots probably didn't make it through the clear coat...
But hey, I'm not an auto detailer or Paint and Body Man....

I might try the vinegar trick and see how that works. Do i wash my 8 with regular car soap after i wash with the vinegar??

Just wipe the treated areas with quick detail spray and re-wax.

Vinigar is fine
But it works quicker with wine - or add a little alcohol to your vinigar
For bugs, windex can help, the ammonia helps cut the fats and protein.

Distilled water should be used with your 50/50 mix - it tends to pick up more ions, and doesn't leave spots of its own... :cool:

Drink it, don't put it on your car.
First, even a cheap bottle of wine is 4x as expensive as a bottle of white vinegar.
Second, wine stains. Get any on your headliner and it is there for life.
Third, wine stinks. I know you don't like the smell of vinegar, but it dissapates immediately. Wine does not. Your car will smell like a biker-bar toilet for weeks if you spill any.
