washing??????
is it ok to use dawn when washing an 8?
|
only if you want to completely strip the wax off the car (which dawn does). if you wash your car with dawn, you will need to apply a fresh coat of wax to protect the paint. you will need to do this each and every time you wash your car with dawn.
you're better off using an automotive soap to wash with. |
from zainostore.com
Liquid Dawn (hand dishwashing liquid)...has a high alkaline content which cuts right thru carnauba wax, paraffin, silicone oils, etc. I don't advise making a habit of washing your car with Dawn...High alkaline products like Dawn are tough on polishes. It will never harm the paint finish though. A car wash is made specifically to clean without removing durable polishes. |
buy any car shampoo, it cleans just as well, unless you WANT to clean the wax off.
I use meguiar's in the pink bottle |

Do you hate the wax on your car that much??
Just go buy a bottle of this stuff: (not the best out there but MUCH better then dawn soap) |
They have a big jug of meguiars car wash soap (pictured above) at costco for like 7 bucks. That's what I use for regular washing.

Meguiars NXT carwash, best stuff ever.

I'm meguiar's biased. it smells great. yea only use dawn when you want to strip your wax. |
Sure you can use Dawn ... if you want the strip the wax and the clearcoat off your car as well! :nono: As other's have said ... pickup any brand name car wash and your set ... though Zaino really is the best!

I use black magic, smells like cherries!!!! and looks real cool too

Somehow I don't think dawn unless used regularly 2 or 3 times a week will strip your clear coat. On older cars maybe but not new cars. Anywho... Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo is my go to product with a sheepskin mit. I use the 2 bucket wash method... one bucket to wrinse my dirty mit in after I finish a pannel and the other with the soapy solution.
