Turtle Wax Ice and Turtle Wax Liquid Claybar (Final?) impressions

I was (am still am to a point) a supporter of the T.W. Ice product.

I claybar'd all the exterior lights (with a real claybar). It clearly (pun intended) got rid of road grime and what-not, and they are quite noticeably cleaner than before. Very smooth finish and pretty good for now.

But, while I had the clay out, I decided to do the hood of the car to see if the real clay was in fact better than the Turtle Wax Liquid Claybar.

Oh yeah....no doubt about it. I also then decided to use Mothers Wax after the clay to see if it was too, in fact, better than Turtle Wax Ice (of which I had been using since early last summer).

Ummm, yeah, about that!?!?! Hands down it is a better finish than the Liquid Ice stuff.

The Ice is good for a quick and easy gloss (if applied lightly), but as for a replacement to a real wax application there is no comparison (IMO).

Now I know a good lot of you swear by the Zaino family of products, and I would very much like to try that. I'll research how to get that up here in Canada.

But for now, no more T.W. Ice or T.W. Liquid Claybar. Decent products, but in this case, you most definitely get what you pay for.

I just tried it this weekend. It was the first time I've used a clay bar type abrasive product. I have to say it was easy to use and did an excellent job. I felt like it was very forgiving. You could apply firm pressure and scrub a bit without worrying about being too agressive and damaging the paint. My paint felt like sandpaper before and now it feels like glass. Plus it was convienient. It washes at the same time so you don't have to wash first, clahy bar, then wash again. Big Thumbs up.:bigok:

I saw that and was going to try it but I already bought the Mother's clay bar. I've never really used clay before. But the Mother's works nice. I used them on my splash guards and eyelids. Then I did a little experiement. Here's what I did after the Mother's clay:
1) 2 coats of Perma Plate Paint sealant
2) Mother's Detailer's Mist
3) Meguiar's Tec Wax (Paste, I never use liquid wax)
4) TW ICE
5) Another coat of Meguiar's Tec Wax
6) Mother's Detailer's Mist
7) Meguiar's Gold Class Wax
8) Mother's Detailer's Mist
9) TW Carnuba Wax
10) TW ICE

--the finish, afterwards, is unbeliveable! I only wish I could've done my ENTIRE car with so much attention to detail and care. They feel like non-stick teflon and shine like chrome! BTW, as you can tell, I experiment with a lot of different waxes so I've a ton of different brands lying around. I should just make the jump to Zaino...

you dont want to much wax, mothers, meguiars ect, all have cheaper waxs, they do a good job, but wax is sumthing you dont want a lot of. it distorts the finish. the clear, althoug it may look good, gets hazy

you want to invest in a good polish. not trying to hype about it, but zaino polish is good, or meguiars also make a somewhat worthy polish. just make sure it has no wax in it.

put on 2-3 coats of polish, then a mist detailer, then one even coat of wax, i use ardex.

try to limit the waxing. if your a guy that loves putting coats on your car like me, use a pure polish. clear coat can never have enough polish!

My Order of operations was:

1)Wet car to spray off loose debrish and dirt
2)Wet passing cat and watch it run away
3)Use Turtlewax ICE Liquid Claybar per instructions (washes and clay bars in 1 step)
4)Rinse well and use Mr. Clean finish spray with water filter to remove water spots
5)Wet wife in white t-shirt as she comes home from shopping :)
6)Ice groin
7)Dry car with synthetic shammioux (sp?)
8)Apply Meguiars Clean Coat Prep and Polish
9)Ice Shoulder
10)Apply Eagle One Nano Wax
11)Watch as it starts to rain on perfect mirror finish as I buff out the last section.

Don't polishes have slight abrasives in them? So, in effect, too much polish will wear down the clear coat, no?

thats what i thought too...and how do you "coat polish"?

isn't polish suppose to polish and not protect your finish..that is what wax and selants do....

Wow, and a few days later you get to drive your 8!!!

Also, I too am confused about the polish. Can someone clear this up kindly?

polish can have abrasives in it, aka compound. find a non abrasive polish.

Yes it is true, polish has no protection or sealents in it. thats what you want. too much wax distorts, and blurs the clearcoat. you should polish.

ofcoarse you want protection, so a good waxing every month is very good. but some people like to wash and wax every week, and thats way to much wax. you want enough so it dose its job, and thats it.
i like to wash and polish every week. keeps it looking good.

im not saying wax is bad, just too much is. thats all.



turtle wax ice is ok at best, it dose not protect more that 10 days, and it dose not do much to the shine for long. so its not really a wax, or polish.

they tryed to mix them, and they need to e applied in diffrent applications.

you do not want to continously layer cleaner waxes.

if you want to layer waxes, layer pure wax.

can you give some examples of clear waxes?
