tar removal suggestions

I have some tar splattered along bottom of doors and behind wheels from road construction. Does anyone know of a good product to use to get it off. I would rather do it myself than pay to have a detail shop to remove it.

Go to your local kragen/pep boys whatever.. and pick up some Tar & Bug removal. I had some crap that was old as sin just setting in the garage and was still effective at taking off hardened tree sap and tar off my car. Getting a particular brand didn't seem to be a show stopper for me.

Whatever you find to take it off make sure that you wax afterwards because most of the protection will be gone.

Amen to that (waxing afterward). Most of the tar removers out there use petroleum distillates of one manner or another that'll take it down to the clear coat.

WD40 with a water-dampened terry towel. Wax the area when you're done.

wd 40 works great

I use Simply Green every time I wash. I just spray around the areas most likely to pick that stuff every time. Keeping those areas clear constantly this way has prevented me from needing a bug and tar remover ever since I started it. I also have a 3M adhesive remover for anything that is really sturborn. Haven't needed it for this, but could help you if it's bad.

Haha now I will tell you all a secret. For Sap and most other crap... try a Baby Wipe! You think I jest, but really I am serious. I lived in a foresty area for awhile, and NOTHING was as good at removing sap as a baby wipe.

Don't know why there work so well, but they do.
