Cool... Just got mine too, but haven't used it yet. Any helpful hints - what to do, what NOT to do?

1- wash your car with dawn soap.

2- claybar the car.

3- wash the car with zaino car wash.

4- dry the car.

5- spray it with the gloss spray. wiping it off as you go.

6- use the z2 pro wax with the blue dropper stuff.

let it dry an hour or so in the shade. I do this step in my garage.

7- Wipe off the wax with a microfiber towel.

8- gloss spray it again.

repeat waxing if you want.


on a normal day, you'll want to do 3, 4 and 5. When you want to wax it, do 3 - 8. Steps 1 and 2 are only for the first time, or every other year.


the z2 stuff can be put on very lightly. The gloss spray should be watered down to about 50% distilled water. I use up the gloss spray the most. So I usually buy 2 bottles for every one of Z2.

Is Zaino really that much better than Meguiars NXT?

I am sure it is subjective, I was looking for opinions. (hopefully not starting a flame war)

I've only had my 8 for 2 months and haven't waxed it yet - do I still need to do the dawn soap step?

Thanks for the info... After I posted on this topic, I realized there was lots of similar info on other threads, so I apologize for being a noob. :doh:

You use the dawn soap to strip off any wax that may already be on the car.
Then, use a claybar to remove all the contaminants (like overspray, road grime, etc.). Even though the car may be new, a good claying is needed.
Then, wax your car and enjoy

On the first application, it's best to use the Z1 Polish Lock as well, correct?

Like at step 4.5? Or in place of step 5, as it's supposed to be followed with the Z2(even though the site says many people use the Z6 before and after)?

BTW, i'm claying my car(doing the whole zaino ritual) for the first time this weekend, it's two weeks old.

You kids use the Z6 or Z7 for lubricant?

Yes it is because you can put layer upon layer of Zaino on the paint, that's what makes it sooooooo good. You cannot layer NXT, plus don't get NXT on black plastic cause it acts just like wax.

NXT is good stuff for a daily beater, or an older car, and in fact that's what I use it on. My RX-8 gets the good stuff - Zaino.

... I can't afford the good stuff. I use meguiars

Zaino isn't much. $45 for ZFX, Z-2 and Z-6 without shipping and taxes

I was actally REALLY amazed at how quickly the clay bar part took. It should go pretty quickly especially since your car is so new.
I use Z7 to lubricate the car. Go to home depot and get a cheap spray bottle from them, works nicely.

Jedi is the craziest car cleaner I know. Can't go wrong asking him questions if it means taking care of your 8. he washes AND puts a cover on when storing inside his garage!

Huh? Zaino's what I'm using now, I put two coats and my VR looks pretty good. I'll put on two more soon, then take some pics. Just need final exams to be over wtih.

BTW:

Z6 comes in a spray bottle...i'm presuming it "sprays" a stream, not a mist or pattern.

The instruction say

Working with a cool and dry surface, Z-6 is sprayed directly onto the paint. Lightly spritz only the center of a 1 foot section on the car. A dime size in the middle of a one foot section is plenty. Buff immediately with the dry side of the towel. Turn your towel frequently and you'll notice that the surface becomes slicker and slicker. Repeat on next section until the entire car is finished.

So i can spray a little dime sized pile then wipe it?
I won't spray a mist onto a large surface and wipe it?

You can adjust the spray bottle to spray a mist. I typically have it on mist. Spray a large area and then wipe down with microfiber towel.

Having proper towels is VITAL to detailing your car. Have you picked up some good ones?

I have some microfibers from costco, and i picked up some 100% cotton without embroidery(just a plain flat towel...calvin klein, great quality) and washed them a few times to get the "lint" out...not sure which will work better...suggestions welcome!
