Shinka interior cleaning
 

Hey Everyone

I just got my RX8 Shinka last monday and was wondering what is the best way to clean the piano black finish interior without scratching it. It attracts dust like crazy.

Also just got the clear bra installed today anyone know how long it takes for the little bit of leftover water within the clear to go away. The installer said it will suck in and evaporate I just forgot to ak how long.

What parts of the interior are you referring to? The Shinka's interior is slightly different from the other 8's, so I'm not sure what parts you're talking about. If the parts are the same as the radio face, for instance, then you're right, that stuff definitely is a dust magnet. Many of us here are big 303 Aerospace fans for the dash. I read an old post of a guy who accidentally got it on the radio/time/climate display and it fogged it up, so I don't know that I would trust it on the radio face and similar surfaces. Best to use simple water-moistened paper towel or MF towel.

Not sure with the clear bra question, as I do not have one installed (though that's the smartest thing you could have done for the exterior b/c the 8 gets rock chips like a m.f.--my 8's nose is really tattered with them). I wonder if you could just squeegee the excess water out from underneath? I'd call the installer just to be on the safe side so you're not stuck with air/water pockets in the end.

This car is such a blast. Havent been this happy with a car in a long time.

The interior parts I'm concerned with are the piano black high gloss parts. There aren't all that many but its a shiney plastic and looks like it could scratch up pretty easy. And like the radio it just attracts dust.

I read about the paint issues here, thats why I got the clear bra. They did a great job you can barely notice it unless your right on top of the car looking for it. If it was on a lighter finish it would look even better IMHO.

I searched the forums for another RX-8 owner who had a good experience and went with that installer. So far I'm happy with his job. I'm just concerned about every little thing being a new owner and all!

I also zainoed it this past weekend, never have I saw a car shine like that..awesome stuff would definately recommend it.

Congrats on the car, Yes Zaino is the best. For the gloss piano black parts, I use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe off dust and smudges, and a dry one to do a final wipe. 1.5 years of doing this - no scratches.

Might want to try the small interior model. Use it very lightly.

I just use a cotton cloth and buff it to a shine--I don't use any products on that.

Man, nice pictures!! You definitely did a good detailing job there, my friend. I'm not a Zaino user, but I'm going to make the switch either to Zaino or Menzerna FMJ within the next several months because I don't have the time/patience to wax the car every other week anymore and need something that has good durability. Seems like either of those products would go a long way. I'm leaning towards FMJ because people say it's much easier to use.

I like the shine on your shinka....I just bought one last month....Ive been debating what to use...you just helped me make the decision.....one day out of the blue, I tried one of those moist towelettes like a babys but wipe.....they worked really great...got the dust off and kept the shine...

A microfiber towel, just barely moistened with distilled water. One that hasn't been used for anything else. Will pick up the dust, leaves the shine, and leaves no residue.

BTW-FYI It took about a week for the moisture in the clear bra to go away. Looks great and I'm really happy I did it.

I just grabbed a bottle of tire dressing at Kragen Auto Parts. I was really happy with the results. Its Eagle One Wet Tire Dressing spray. The best part is that it doesn't spray all off of the tires when you go to drive it or get the rims a mess when applying it. Just got lucky. I think it was like $4.
