Scratch on Volk GTS Lip. Can be fixed?

Hey guys,

I was putting air into my tires with one of those air hoses at a Shell Gas Station. The hose has some sharp metal edges, and when I pulled the Hose off from the tire I accidently scratched the lip with it. Now I've got a straight line scratch running from the inside of the lip to the outside. It's kinda deep and is noticeble when light is reflecting off it

My wheels are in 100% perfect condition until this one scratch which is driving me bloody nuts! I can't help but keep looking at it everytime I walk past. Is there any solution to getting rid of this scratch or at least making it less noticeable? I hear of many products that can ruin the anodized lip so I thought I'd ask you guys first before I do something stupid.

Jono

it's not anodized. it's a polished lip with a light clear coat, so you may be able to buff it out. try some rubbing compound then polish it up.

The GTS does come with an anodized lip. Confirmed with Mackin.

Your best bet is wax. I would avoid trying anything too harsh. Believe me...it's a very expensive mistake. You can try contacting Brian Duong at Mackin Industries 562 946 6820 x 102. Good luck.

I waxed it 1 day before the actual scratch with some meguiars tech wax 2.0. I'll give it another wax over the scratch and hopfully it'll make it less noticeable which I doubt. Don't think I'm going to try anything else because as RA-Eight said it could become an expensive mistake. I guess I'm just gonna have to live with it :banghead:

i very light polishing compound will get it out. there isn't anything to be afraid of. grab a microfiber towel and get at it. or just have a local wheel refinisher buff it out for you.

Try Meguiar's Swirl-X. I used it on my GTS and it makes the shine really come out. It made the scratches slightly less visible, but didn't fully remove them. You would probably need something like their Ultimate Compound to remove it further. I am not sure how safe it is for the clear coat though.

do you own a set of volk wheels? or any wheel of that quality/price? cause i'm sure you would be slightly upset if that happened to you.

ferg 05-15-2009 03:19 PM

some people take it differently. some of my friends go nuts if they get a small mark on their precious nike dunks or jordans. women go nuts when you don't put the seat back down on the toilet. christian bale goes nuts when a guy walks by during filming.

yea....

Ferg sounds mature or extremely wealthy, either way they are both admirable qualities. I could do with a dose of his advice. My blood pressure would be a lot lower too! LOL

I gotta shake this whole vanity thing...
