RX8 Car cover

I got the blue RX8 cover for Christmas and haven’t used it yet because we just moved and I can't park in the garage yet. I was only going to put the car cover on while it was parked inside the garage. But there is a lot of construction going on here since my neighborhood is up and coming, so in return the car gets REALLY dusty. So I want to put the car cover on after my car dries from the wash I just gave it. Now my question is when the car cover gets dirty how do you clean? Do you just spray it down? Washer (which I cant see doing) Or something else. Please let me know, thanks.

I would assume that it is meant to be exposed to the elements, so spraying it down and allowing it to air dry probably would be fine. Just be sure to take it off your 8 if it isn't waterproof.

I think you should get a car cover for the car cover! And Zaino it, too! :p

Maybe spray some 303 High-Tech Fabric Guard on it?

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but Quack, do you think 303 is a better fabric protectant than Scotchguard? I have some generic seat covers on my front seats right now--I want to take them off but I'm not sure what to use to protect the seats from wear (not just stains).

I don't know. I do whatever David Bynon says. :) Who's David Bynon you ask? He owns this.

That makes the two of us. Love that site :)

Don't mean to sound like a smartass but check under the cover for instructions, read the box, or check the site. Car covers cleaning instructions vary.

Cleaning and Washing Instructions

I have a Weathershield car cover. I have washed it twice so far. It came with some cleaning and washing instructions as follows:

...may be washed using a home-type washing machine and dryer, but larger commercial machines work best due to the extra volume of water used for washing and rinsing....

...Use a powder type detergent WITHOUT bleach. The detergent MUST be completely dissolved in the water before the washing process begins. Wash cover using 'Normal' or 'Permanent Press' cycles in cold or warm water. DO NOT WASH IN HOT WATER! Run cover through two or more rinse cycles - it is important that all detergent be removed. The cover can be dried in most home dryers. Use the 'Permanent Press' settings. DO NOT use fabric softener. You may need to fluff the cover in the dryer to assure all suraces are dry....
The only thing I would add is that the cover frequently gets wrapped up into a ball in the dryer. I let it dry overnight, draped over the couch.
