how much do u charge for that kind of a detail job?

A google search led me to it measuring paint thickness. Not sure why that matters, maybe to detect respray or an accident or something? not sure why it helps in detailing?

All it takes is a concerted effort with extreme attention to detail (hence the term "detail"), which RR obviously has. Well done!

might be measuring to see how much clear coat there is so he doesn't go through it while polishing?

Thanks for all the response guys. I do agree the pics are a bit too contrasty and saturated. I usually do a batch job to tune pictures for web, since they tend to lose lots of colors and pixels, but turns out this time it seems overly done.

Yes, the Paint meter is to ensure that the paint is safe for what level of polishing.
Believe or not, I have detailed 2-3 yr old cars with areas that have so thin of a clearcoat, I can only do a real light polish. :| Luckily, not on this mazda. :D

It will be quite a long post if I post my entire process. Lets just say I spent 15 hours on it. :) (Unfortunately, this does not include any interior work yet)

Make sure engine is cold
Gently mist that part with water.
Use your favorite degreaser. For me, its the P21s TAW
Let the degreaser sit for like 5-10 mins
Gently rinse off with water
Apply your fav engine dressing.

Clean is overrated.....

Anyone have tips on how to detail the 8? Just got one and have been using mostly meguiars products and waxing with a microfiber applicator. Is buffing better? How does one do, is it expensive?
