Rotary Accents - Double Sided Tape?

I want to take the rotary accents off and clean them (they have a white residue on them which I posted a thread about recently). I'm assuming that after I remove them I'll want to use new double sided tape. I've searched and found threads about installing the accents, but none of them mention removal and reinstallation so I'm not sure what type of double sided tape I need. Is it just the same stuff I might find in Walmart etc. or do I need to get something that's for outdoor use?

Also, is it safe for me to polish them with a metal polish such as Brasso?

I gather from your sig they are factory installed? If so, I believe the front accents have 2 very small plastic tabs near the back of the front accent along with the tape. If you reach your hand behind you can feel them near the top. They simply pop out. Other than that each accent would need to be removed with a bit of force. Remove all old tape and prep surfaces with an astringant like rubbing alchohol.

You can find 3M heavy duty tape at a hardware store or in Automotive. In terms of cleaning them, the accents are chrome so be sure to use a polish specific for that use.

Good luck.

This is a bit of a delayed response... thanks for the info, I haven't had time to try it out yet. I am probably going to visit the dealer next weekend (long drive) and so I'll probably just have them do it. Doesn't mean I won't remove them myself at some point, so it's still useful information.

They are the factory accents although they look like aluminum?

Recently, I decided to replace my dull, factory installed front accent with a shiny, new one I bought from RX8strakes.com.

I noticed that two tiny slotted screws were inside the V. Naturally, I thought that simply unscrewing them would result in easy removal of the accent. Was way wrong on that assumption.

After about an hour of turning both screws and getting nowhere, I decided to jack up the front of my car onto stands so that I could take a better look under the front bumper. Anyone who has lowered a car, knows that it's pretty much impossible to look under the car with the tires on the garage floor.

Much to my chagrin, I saw what was causing my problem. The screws were actually tiny bolts with the tiniest nuts I have ever seen attached to their ends. Instead of fooling around with those, I noticed that if I pulled slighty downward on the V, two attaching "knobs" located on top of the black plastic the V attaches too, popped out of their respective mounting locations, just below the bottom of the grill. After doing this, I carefully wiggled the old V off without having to undue the bolts at all.

I cleaned up the attachment area with some solvent and applied the shiny, new V. The new piece came with some heavy duty double sided tape and two bolts with nuts. I decided to forgoe the nuts and bolts because the tape seems quite sticky.
